  5. Looks like Chip had a great OG 32 to start with. I'll bet that blown flathead is fun to peddle. Still think it needs a haircut, Chips not a tall guy, so it wouldn't have been an issue, but I can see where he is coming from. Kinda a high end resto rod.

Its great to see restraint in over the top here. I guess he had some power over the final product combined with customer influence and desires. Again this guy has done the walk and has great respect for the past. A master of his craft.

When these Masters (of which there are very many here) produce a Hamb worthy product it is good for what we as a niche group represent and it helps educate and influence the generations of why this period represented here was so great. This of course was not the reason it was produced but the desired era of fit for this build. Good job Chip. Great thread @jakespeed63. A thank you to all the others contributing support material to this build bringing it all together as to why and how. Another bit of color for the history books...;)

I'm sorry, but that would look dumb as the V for V8 would be upside down... and would look like you had no attention to detail.

I'm thinking Betty is a one degree of separation from Betsy...

I do think it's funny how cynical people can be. When was the last time someone walked up your driveway and told you how to build your car... and you followed their direction??? I was building a '29 A sedan that was in residing in my driveway, and I had a guy in the neighborhood stop by one day and wanted to ***ist in my build who proceeded to tell me how to build my car. I listened, as most of us would, and in my head I was blown away with the nerve of this guy to come by and tell me how to "envision" my car... and then try and ***ist me in my build.

I'm not chopping my '32. I love chopped '32s... but mine is not getting chopped. Even if I was a gazzillionair, I'm not chopping it. If it was a United Pacific body... yeah... 6" would come off the top. But it's not.

Those wheels did exactly what a lot of you pointed out... drew your eyes in. I care less for the super shiny clear coat than I do the wheels as it's VERY easy to swap wheels... especially when your name is Chip Foose.

Saying Chip Foose is "the man's" hot rodder is like saying Donald Trump is everyone's president. No matter how you slice it, he's an innovator in the industry. I'm not a huge fan of his work, but he's done very well with himself in "our" hobby.

Considering this Deuce 5wd is Chip’s personal car, it’s safe to say the “customer” got exactly what he desired :)

  9. This I like..... too bad it isn't the car he built....

I am a huge fan of Foose. I doubt there is a better-built Deuce in the whole country. But style-wise, this is a case of Emperor's new clothes, sorry. Not trying to flame anyone, it's just not the kind of trend setter that I have come to expect from Chip Foose. I'm sure he did it exactly like he wanted for his personal ride.

I like those wheels on this A.
The performance styling all goes together.
With regards to Chip's 32, I'm not buying into this - its a focal point that draws your eye - stuff.
To me they are a distraction that pulls your eye from an otherwise flawless build.

I'd guess he got to a point where he decided the car was just too plain for his (or more likely the show worlds) taste and decided to step it up a notch with the wheels. It has to be difficult to balance personal taste with fan expectations at the level he plays at.

I'm not a fan of his wheels in general. The wheels and tires make the car in my opinion.

Richard Rawlings is a carnival barker, with a rich friend.

He does not, and cannot design, build, weld, fabricate, or paint.

Having had the misfortune of crossing his path a few times, I can say that his "reality" television show only serves to inflate his already out-sized ego.

The wheels replicate those used in the 50's and 60's on Indy 500 and most all USAC racing cars. They show up on hot rods once in a while and will become even more common place now I expect. The quality of the build goes without saying. I struggle with the knobby truck tires he used. indy 2.jpg indy 3.jpg indy car wheels.jpg

The wheels are a close copy of the wheels that were built for Mickey Thompson by Halibrand for roadster.jpg
his LSR efforts. John Swanson has an original set on his immaculate '28 roadster, this is a car that you can spend hours looking at. I first saw these wheels at his house about 15 years ago and was in awe.

I like the car, the wheels, and Mr. Foose.

Not a big fan of some of his other work, aesthetic grounds, but that is me, not him. He is a consummate craftsman, and a genuinely nice guy.

I agree with the above, enough about the wheels. Engine room is really sanitary in spite of all that's going on there. Now that the interior shots are posted here, well, I remain as I was in that I don't like the grain. I'd really like to do an instrument panel for one of these guys some day. There's a certain 36 Ford with extensive mods and a Zephyr dash get up in it, woodgrained on the face. As sarcastic as I can be I won't comment because I know the feeling from behind the brush. However (from an open image search):

Please understand that I'm not here playing King Kong, it's just that such an application can make or break, will be that one huge thing you see every time you get in. And that goes for both cars. Just sayin, and no, I won't post any of mine.

  26. I'm going to trow this out, the one thing I'd change, I'd like to see the front just a tad lower, about like Alan ****on's '32.

I actually love the color on Chip's.

  27. And! Although I agree with the praise we, me included, for not whackin' the top, let's also give him credit for a dropped I-beam!
