The backwards Buick was from the mid-west, have a friend who saw and heard it run at Cordova. Said it made a shrill deafening sound going through the traps.

Some more from my early days at Brooksfield in South Australia.

First up is Rex Brown's Ford Zephyr (English) powered D/D on the return road and being pushed by the late Geoff Mee's 58 Holden ute. The later version of this dragster was the first one that I ever drove.

Sticking with the dragsters from down under we have Clive Ward's Jaguar powered D/D. Because the rules called for pre 1963 engines the Jag (which dated back to the late 40's) was legal but it was a bit of a "ringer". All that kept it from dominating the class was the fact that Clive could not keep a clutch alive in the car. It may not be obvious from the photo bu the carbs were sand cast 58mm side draft Webers which are now worth a huge amount of money. When Ward gave up on the Jaguar the car went to Russell Parker who fitted a flathead Ford (and added spoked front wheels in place of the 13" Ford Anglia units seen here).

This is the John H Ellers (Holden dealer) sponsored car of Zeke Agars that is in a couple of my earlier posts. At this point the car was new and yet to be signwritten (lettered for you guys in the US). Zeke was also an accomplished dirt track racer in what later evolved into sprint cars. The car immediately behind is Jeff During's straight 8 Buick D/D

    Hey RS,

That photo op of the FED at San Onofre nuke station is classic. Great capture. Today, that place is being shut down, very slowly, but the photo opportunity along that portion of the coast is pretty nice. The owner must have connections to the public service center there back then. Now, restrictions are tighter.

That photo of the Trotter and Hightower FED looks right at home there. That place has grown since back in those mid 60's, but is slowly being shut down and dismantled.

That's interesting stuff... I know all about being around nuke plants.... I live about two miles from one....well it was one they shut it down years ago but just a couple years back , after several years of dismantling, they blew up the cooling tower and the wind was blowing my direction covered everything in concrete dust...it was like mount St. Helens eruption all over again....oh yes I live in Oregon.....the plant was the Trojan Nuke Power Plant.....glad you liked the post...
    Thanks

I think these also were lost in the big 2017 crash. And should be here. Jack Costella's 500 pound F85 powered digger. In 1962. Note go kart steering and bicycle Dragster Jack's 001-1.jpg wheels and tires.

    Hello,

Everyone likes a mystery. So, who is Kenny Lindley/Don Hampton racing in this short movie clip? What kind of FED is it in the tower side lane? What kind of motor? The second racecar...Different motors different race cars…please help solve the mystery.
    thanks,

Ardun, Herb Ries stop by my place today and I ask him about Porter Ries and Chambers. Herbie doesn't recall a Chambers partnership....

Zane Shubert in the Herbert-Shubert car - early '60s. I'm guessing the injected version was to shake it down. Then they added the blowers. That chute must have packed a wallop when it snapped

Mark, Interesting, thanks for the update...I wonder if the Chambers partnership was with Steve Porter? I will check.
