Has anyone installed a power booster in a 54 Customline that doesn't have the bracket sticking it out 4 inches from the firewall? I would like a flush mounted booster, or just slightly off the firewall, but can't seem to find anyone offering one for sale.

    Thanks

My first wagon had the booster bolted directly to the fire wall. The previous owner installed it. He remade the brake pedal so he could move the pin down to connect to the booster. The reason is that the ratio should be at least 4 to 1. The stock ratio is no where near that, that's why it has to be changed. The reason most after market boosters have the bracketry because they have a system between the booster, rod and pedal to change the ratio for better power ***ist.
If you are interested in installing the booster on the fire wall direct, I have a brand new rebuilt one, if you are interested give me a call. 818 572 5302 Dave

Thanks Dave... I am trying to find a bolt on unit that is already chromed. I guess the pedal ***embly ratio is why no one has it available flush mount. Looks like I will have to accept the distance off the firewall.

Several years back we had a vendor listed on the "FAQ" he was also hitting the west coast swap meets but has since retired but he claimed the bracket used on 1952-56 fords was to clear when you had a Y-Block. We have several members that have used later model Ford flush mount boosters along with an SBF swap.

I installed a power booster on my 1953 victoria. Check with toms cl***ic on eBay. It fits a 52-59 full size ford. You will have to us the small bracket that comes with the booster. If this looks like something you want, I can show you how I modified the bracket.

I installed one on my 1953 ford victoria. You will have to replace the large bracket with the smaller one they send with it. I you are interested I will show how I modified the bracket.

I actually received my booster from Tom's Cl***ic on Friday and will be installing it tomorrow. I was wanting one that sat flush to the firewall with no bracket, but there doesn't appear to be one that is available. I only received one bracket with my booster, but two different lengths of pedal rods. After measuring, it looks like I will have to use the shorter rod. If there is a reason why the bracket is needed to be modified I would appreciate your letting me know why and I would be glad to see your pics. Thanks

Here are the pics of my installation. The brackets I used only stick out from the firewall 2 inches. They bolt into the same holes as the stock master cylinder did.

I ordered the same booster setup but my bracket is out about 4 inches from the firewall. Did they send you a shorter bracket? Or did you just modify it which I would ***ume required that you modified the pedal rod? Thx

They sent a shorter bracket with my kit. Go to eBay and type in the search box (chevy tri five power brake booster brackets) This is the bracket they sent me. Yes I had to shorten the brake pedal rod.

I had to use that bracket in my 55 since its going to get a Y block again but I am looking at a 54 that will get a 302 and would like a flush mounted booster if purchased.

No one sells a flush mounted booster. I have looked extensively. I purchased Toms Cl***ics 7 in dual booster and the bracket sits out 4 inches. I called Tom's today about the shorter 2 1/2 bracket that Jerden was talking about and he said he could sell one to me but can't guarantee the fit or what all has to be done to make it work, but obviously it works since Jerden did it. I am still more interested in a flush mount and since I have seen some Chevy guys do it with just a little work I'm going to give it a shot. I do have a friend that builds custom cars and he said we can make it work so I am going to get with him and we are going to flush mount and make new brackets and pedal rod. I'm putting this project off for a month or so, but will keep everyone updated on the results in case some one is interested int eh results.

I put a dual diaphram booster and the bracket on my 55 and it sticks out alot but I do not have much money in it and its all OEM parts that can be found easy if a problem arises but kind of made it harder to work on that side of the motor. If I get the 54 its going to be a little different.

That isnt sticking out far at all compared to the 4 inch bracket set up I received from Tom's Cl***ic's and my new booster. I would accept your distance just fine, but I will go ahead and get it flush mounted.

76 Mustang II booster and master cylinder and the bracket is from a mid 70s f150,the holes in the bracket where the booster mounts needed to be ground out some and the same with the top holes where it mounts to the firewall with larger washers.

IMG_2073.JPG IMG_2075.JPG Since we're talking junk yard here is mine. 78 Granada booster and m/c. The mods required are in one of my earlier posts somewhere. The rod has to be lengthened to bring the pedal up to a normal height. Can't say if it works, car not on the ground yet. I also used Granada frt calipers and the Fairlane weighs about the same. I think it should work. I think it's a 8 inch single.

Guys, Keep in mind that just getting the booster to bolt flat does not mean that it will work correctly. Pedal ratio has to come into play. You can see on junkyardjeff installation how low the booster is and you can see in jerdan that his booster and the brackets raise the booster. With that and an off set push rod, that will work a lot better, pedal ratio is a very important thing to keep in mind. That is the difference between a good feeling in stopping and an o.k. feeling in stopping.

I saw a picture several weeks back where a guy used a booster and master from a Fox body Mustang, wish I could find it. This is a shot from HOT ROD PRIMER'S Blog of his booster in his '54 maybe he can give us the details. Picture below.

I am going to a car show in Panama City this weekend and this 54 used to be at the show every year; however, I haven't seen him the last 2 years. I took some pics of his car the last time I saw him and now that I go back and look I see he had a flush mounted booster. I hope he is there this weekend and I will get details of what he did if so.

This is how I mounted mine, not flush mounted but not too far out either. The holes on the booster don't match the firewall but the bracket took care of that.
