Oops this is the Nash I saw on the Streets of West Covina California. My story is misplaced below the orange bantam comp coupe

    Hey Dave,
This is another photo of the Colburn Glaze coupe that I have never seen before. That coupe was one of my favorites back in 1959. It always looked ready to rumble. My brother wanted to eventually drive an FED like Tommy Ivo's single Buick. I wanted to be the cool guy in this mean looking Colburn Glaze Coupe. That would have been something.

Here are two of my favorite films that I just happened film in 1959. One at Lions and the most "action-y" film clip from the Riverside Raceway eliminations against record holder, Cyr and Hopper... "a no guts, no glory style" run...Yes!

LB that orange Anglia is my brothers car. It sat for many, many years. We put a new chassis in it (we got body only} and it is Olds powered, not running yet maybe next year.

Well isn't that a great coincidence Pat. :) Was it Ford Y block powered in the photo? Hard to tell

I've wanted to spend some time looking at the George Klass collection (outstanding) but it is so massive I was afraid to start, well I perused it this a.m. and I gotta say there was a plethora of strange stuff that came out of the late 50's/early 60's.

  18. No, it isn't. It's a fuel altered, just like the 554 coupe. Wrong thread.

After seeing all this, the recognition still in place, how hard would it be to set up a revival? Sure, there's current rules that will need to be observed and we like safety in spite of the occasional bravado. The whole Gasser Madness thing is gaining traction (no pun intended, well as far as you know;) ) and I for one would love to see match racing in Modified Production revivals and maybe even Junior Stock. IHRA had something similar for a short while and the cars were really fun to watch but I don't recall that class. Big Block door slammers were the main draw with several HAMB-friendly types from the early 60s mixing it up with Camaros and Mustangs. Winning ETs were 10.0s and 9.90s. Some of this stuff could easily be built on a budget, especially M/P and Junior Stocks. Fuel Coupe 'A' could be nitro with all proper protocals observed, 'B' on alky, the rest on gas with breaks for injected, blown, carburetors, etc. And frankly I don't think a hardcore focus on old technology needs to be in place. Use good safe stuff and go as fast as you can spend, right? I mean really, how many have been "outed" as under construction right here in this topic? Racing is never a cheap proposition and neither is building a hot rod. Thoughts?

[IMG]As you can see. In this picture it is an F/AC. Which I guess is Fuel/ Altered Coupe. So putting the B in front of that would make it a Blown Fuel/Altered Coupe. The lettering seems to change from time to time.

[IMG]Comp coupe is still big at Bonneville. They look something like this these days.

  23. Les ran a small motor quite a bit. The "B" means smaller engine than "A" fuel coupe. In those days a 331" Chrysler would have been Class B. Jim Fox's engine was a 331, so the Weekly, Rivero, Fox & Holding fuel dragster was a B/FD.

Ernie Long and Larry Petit out of Akron Ohio. Also note the credit to the Hollish brothers (Joe, Pete and Frank) on the cowl.

LeyRoy Mackey from Corpus Christi, TX. The early unblown version of this car car won the A/C class at one of the 50's Nationals and was thus one of the four cars to run off for the championship.
