I have a LOT of parts in my collection including enough to build a rolling ch***is for both a 1919 Model T and 1930 Model A. There is one point that nags at me and it will determine how old I go with my Speedster/Gow Job project. How much horsepower would a properly rebuilt rear axle take for each of these vehicles? I don’t mean to drag race or such but asphalt day trips and events. The Model T frame will be reenforced and I’ll likely put juice brakes on the front and keep the hand brake for the rear, or get a CO Mtn Brake. Thanks Much!! ===== Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I know of several folks who run a mildly built flathead V8 and as long as you don't pound on it your good! Don't know about the T rear axle.
The Model T rear end was designed for 20 HP. The Model A was designed for 40HP. The T rear end will stand up to a hopped up Model T engine. The Model A, if driven sensibly, can tolerate a mild flathead V8.
