Well it has been about 6 months in the making but yesterday was the day. I found this 55 Chevy body at a local closed down wrecking yard about 10 miles from my house while looking for parts when I was building my Roadster. I did not have a frame and was not wanting the body without a frame. Well about three weeks ago I found a frame on Craiglist for real cheap. My pops went and got it for me that weekend and brought it home. Then I got some fenders and a some doors donated by a Hamber (S****e). Thanks Troy. So I pondered the last couple weeks getting it for lack of funds but yesterday was the day. I got some earlier shots from when it was back in the back but the owner had already moved it out to the front for me. I have always been fond of these cars (55-57 Chevys). From when I was a wee lad my dad always had tr-five cars. With my favorite being a 57 Chevy 2dr hardtop that was a cover car. Never really thought after building these 30's model cars I would have one, but now that I have it and I love it. The best part of all my wife like it too. Know really big plans for it but to swap the running 6 cylinder out of it and drop in the 283 and 4 speed (of course) and do some floord board repair. Gots to have three pedals. Big thanks goes out to My Pops ( DIrty2) and little Sis for keeping my daughter occupied while we got it all landed on the frame.
Man...you guys in the southwest ****...you'd never find anything that nice in a yard up here in the northeast...nice find
Thanks everyone. Kinda torn between G***er and more of a raked hot rod look. Got just about everything to go straight axle but the other side of me says no. Got some fenderwell headers with exhaust cut out I will run. Probably gonna go for more of the Swap meet / Daily driver look. Needs something that I can drive during the week that can fit a couple car seats if i wanted with the Roadster I can only fit one. And no, that does not mean the roadster is for sale either. I am pretty excited about the 55 though. Kinda gets me excited thinking about it. Got a couple customers cars to finish before the thrash can begin but hey I got it. Thanks everyone for the compliments, Rusty
Well, to be fair, most stuff like that has spent a fair amount of time on the bottom of a 3 or 4 car pile, so the roof is toast. I'd still call that a good score, regardless of region.
This wrecking yard has never had cars stacked. All the cars were in lin with each other. Still got to go back and do some more shopping
Can I get Jealous!! There rustier up here but I have mine and that is all that matters. Have fun with it.
i wonder who will have there 55 on the road first father or son. rusty does the wife know its yours yet?
Cool, I just scored a post belaire calif car. has a 454, richmond 5 speed and a currey posi. rear w 4 wheel disc brakes in project it has new tubular A-arms but I want to straight axle g***er it, what do you think?
nice job on the find....I like the 55 sedans....I may have one some day....but for now, I got a longroof You got to keep the picts and show progress...nice!
Oh yeah It h*** definately slowed me down or should I say I get even less sleep now. Gotta get this Coupe done then your car Chandler, and then I can start thrashing on the 55, But before that I gotta help pops get this 55 of his ready to do some Hemi *** Whippin!!!!! at MoKAn. Either way it will give me time to decide exactly what I want to do with it. THanks everyone for the comments, It truely is pretty nice with a few typical bad spots of the era but nothing that cant be fixed, Thanks Rusty
