Projects 1934 Plymouth 2 door sedan build

I've had this pile o parts for 17 years, time to build something. I'm a huge fan of the vintage coupes and sedans that ran on the lakes/salt years ago, and want to build this car in that style but for the street. Full hood, channeled a bit, maybe a chop. Smooth.
These cars have great proportions to start with, they don't need severe changes to look good.

This will be a lowbuck project, using parts I have laying around mostly...

Early Mopar's are good looking cars even w/o being chopped.Mopar power?

 

2-dr sedans are harder to find than coupes.

 

Would love to put a hemi in it......don't have one, can't afford to build one either.
Power will be Ford FE with a T10 4 speed. I'm sure that will piss off the mopar guys....
I have several FE's already and like em.

 

Good looking car. My father has one just like it. Runs a 360 w/automatic and a 9 inch Ford rear.

I only do half fast work so it might take awhile!

 

So the frame had this huge ugly X member for the factory IFS....that had to go.
I had a Hudson frame laying around, so I lopped off the front and grafted it on.
Fits surprisingly well!

 

Looks like a cool start! Frame came out great, much cleaner

I fish plated and fully boxed the frame where the 2 parts meet, then welded up dozens of extra holes.
Still more welding and grinding to do.
For the front suspension I'm using the Hudson axle on parallel leaves. This axle is the Elliot type and really cool looking.
Front springs are model A type with a couple leaves removed.
I was lucky to score an NOS kingpin set for this axle off Ebay.

 

The rear end I'm using for mock up is an 8" out of a Granada, it's the perfect width as is. Will likely swap in a 9" later. The rear is hung on parallel leaves as well, sourced from an F-1 pickup(front).

Cool car! I had a 34 2dr until a few years ago! It drove great and was a good car for 10 years and more than 60000 miles.... Always ran out of gas... Still missing it!

The car looked pretty good on 4 wheels, but not quite there yet. Since the floors were rusty and weak I decided to channel it a bit.
Only about 2", as I didn't want to upset the proportions. Still may chop the roof, but gonna wait til the car is together a bit more and see how it looks.

So this is where I am now... I blasted the body, found a bunch more rust in the rockers/door jambs. Got that all rebuilt, now working on the floors.

 

I finished up the floor from the shifter back, still need to do the front area with toe board and trans tunnel area.


Did some junkyard shopping.....found a nice seat from a Chrysler mini van. Also grabbed some pedals from a '67 Chevy PU and have those pretty much sorted.

 

Following. Finished my 33 Dodge coupe in Aug. Thread on HAMB. Your work is more involved and excellent.

Been working on the steering....I'm using an F-1 box.
Not happy with the current placement, I have ordered some different headers. Would like to move the box forward a bit to ease the box/column angle.

Also using the F-1 column and drop

 

Love your car and love Fords but trade your FE for a Mopar engine. You won't have 1/2 of the issues your having now! I know where there's a Poly head in your area that would fit well between those rails.

I'm a Mopar guy, but if he put a Mopar motor/trans in there, he would also have a starter trying to occupy the same space as the header and steering box.
He has FE Ford motors & trans, use the FE Ford. Gene

Yeah, I tried the mopar (383) thing.....no worky. The FE will work great, at least it's not a small block Chevy.....

fastest car I ever rode in was a 34 Plym sedan a friend had in 1971. full fendered, black with red/wht tuck & roll, soft top insert was white with a big red diamond, Chev 427-435 tri-power, 4-spd, & 5.38 gears
