I am interested in installing 365 heads on my '55 Cadillac 331. Are there any major differences in the three years. I've seen that early '56 heads cracked a lot. There is an early part number and a later part number, depending upon VIN. They ('56-8) all have different part numbers. I know the valve sizes are the same. I don't know of combustion chamber differences, drain hole differences, various mounting bosses. I know I need a right and a left and I guess I would use 331 head gasket.
Hi vetteson, I too would like some advice along these lines as I’m intending to try to do the same also. I’m also wondering if I can use the early 390 intake on top of that setup because it’s supposed to be the best intake for these engines. Anyone got any experience of this, plus how about swapping the carb to a Holley?
All of the intakes will interchange between 331, 365 and 390. A Holley will fit the 390 intake with an adapter, but an AFB or Edelbrock will bolt right on. As far as the head swap goes, just be sure you have to correct rocker arm ***y. and head bolts for the heads you use...
