I usually don't rant about bad companys but I'm at my wits end with Stockton Wheels. I had good luck with them on the first pair of wheels I ordered so I figured I'd give them a try again. BAD IDEA!! I ordered a pair of chrome 15x4 early Ford style wheels. Ordered them at the end of January figuring the 4-6 week delivery time. Then Fatabone (Jr) wanted a set of 16's for his coupe for the ride to Texas. One of his stock wheels is bent a little and vibrates above 70mph. I ordered his 2 weeks after I ordered mine. No problem....more than 6 weeks before the Round Up. Well a week before the Round Up I call Stockton to check on the wheels. They gave me a few excuses but promised to 2 day air them to me so we could have them for our trip. I call them the day after they were supposed to be shipped for a tracking number........NO WHEELS! I was pissed I wasn't sure Jr still wanted the wheels cause the trip was the main reason for getting them. I told the guy how I felt and the wheels were not to be shipped till we got back from Texas and Jr may cancel his wheels. When I got back from Texas I called the guy back to confirm the order and Jr still wanted his. I was told they were done and ready to be shipped. That was 3 weeks ago! I call today to check on the status of the wheels. After being put on hold and given the big run around. The guy finally tells me that Jr's wheels are done (YEH RIGHT!) and would be shipped Thursday. He then told me he has no clue when my wheels would be done. First if Jr's wheels really are done why wait 4 days to ship them when the customer is already pissed? The guy on the phone couldn't or wouldn't give me any answers. I asked for some one that could. I'm supposed to get a call from the owner tommorrow but I doubt that will happen. A word to the wise....STAY AWAY FROM STOCKTON WHEEL!! Clark
Clark, I had problems with Stockton Wheels years ago with WWW radials that kept cracking and haven't been back since. There service and promises suck. If it's not too late for you or down the road try the Early Wheel Company. I have bought a load of wheels from Pete and so have my friends and we keep going back. He'll tell you just like it is, and sticks to what he tells you every time! My stuff has always shipped the same or following day and they have been built to order. I feel your pain. I just don't understand these companies. I hear this about various companies from time to time. Why LIE to your customers? If you can't get your lazy ass up and place your hand on the stock and fill out the damn shipping slip and send it to a customer right then and there, then STFU. I'm sick and tired of people in customer service either too lazy to follow up and at least attempt to make sure they know what they are talking about.
i think this is guy that made some rears for us.......called him about 1pm cali time......and he told me he would make em up ...and have them out the next morning.....5 days later they were in ky ...and price was right .....even with custom spacing.......brandon
I don't see how stockton wheel stays in business, this is at least the third thread I have seen in a year telling how shitty their service is.
hey y'all, do searches in HAMB and ask for recommendations before you drop coin. There's enough resource available here that any company ought to be able to get away with screwing a HAMBer once.
I had bad luck with them about a month ago. Had to threathen to turn them into the local Better Business Bureau. Don't try to go through Frank....Get someone else on the phone, get their name, and call them twice a day till they do what you need. Fuck Stockton Wheel.
He is the owner, and is a LIAR. The only way to get shit done is to put the heat on someone else . He assured me 3 times, my card would be refunded, but it never was. Took talking to someone with a conscience to get it done. It amazes me they are still in business....but if I charged peoples credit cards 6 weeks before sending out the products, I guess I would still be in business too.
Sorry to hear this Clark. I ordered a set of wheels from Stockton and read the horrror stories on here the next day! I thought I was screwed, but the wheels came as promised! So I have quit while I am ahead! Sent my buddy to Wheel Vintique.
I highly recommend Early Wheel I've used them for about a dozen wheels and there are always right on the money for backspacing. As far as Stockton goes I wouldn't order wheels for a kids little red wagon from them. I used them once 4 years ago for some 8 lug truck wheels for the COE I was building at the time. I ordered specific backspacing and was told no problem, well when I got them they were not right called and was told "send them back we'll make it right" When I got them the second time they hadn't been changed and when I phoned to complain I was told that 1/8" +/- was their tolorance. So your wheels could be 1/4" different from one side to the other or if the guy goofed and a final inspection didn't catch it maybe more. Now I realize a 1/4" isn't much, but Early Wheel doesn't have a problem getting them right on the money
I needed to order a new rim for my car before Viva this year. So I take the rim and tire down to Stockton Wheel so they can see exactly what I needed (astro supreme 14x7 reverse) the guy looks at the rim and tire makes a phone call and says he will have one there for me the next day. So I go the next day pick up the rim and take it to get mounted and guess what the rim they gave me was 15x8. I call and bitch them out and tell them they need to get me the right size like now. It's now 1 week to Viva. They call back adn say they can't find me one, it would take 3 to 4 weeks. After some yelling and screaming they say they will build me one, only take a week. The day before I'm supposed to leave for Viva I go there and pick up my rim and look at it and the f*@#^&% stamping is on the front side of the rim clearly visable in two spots. The guy just says that's the way they come now. WTF Never using them again!!!!!
Clark, sorry you have to deal with that runaround. Things like that are so frustrating. Whenever this subject comes up, people warn to stay away from Stockton. I guess they had a good reputation long ago. I've been wanting to get a set of chrome steel wheels made for my car for years now but still don't have the cash to spend. I just have two sets of donor wheels cleaned to figure out which are the best ones for chrome. Someday... Pete Paulsen has been recommended, so I had planned to try his company. Hopefully that will work out. I will also call Early Wheel to get a quote. I hope your situation works out.
Sorry to hea about your problems with Stockton Clark. Too bad you missed the previous posts. Like the others said you can not go wrong with Pete at Early Wheel Company. Back when you were a little younger, Pete was a big wheel (pun intended) in NJ. Does the name VanIderstine ring a bell? He was a member of the NJSRA, ran a fueler (1970 - do a Google image search for his name and you'll get him doing a burn out at Englishtown), had a dynamite black Deuce hiboy and had a couple of speed shops in Jerzee. Hell of a nice guy. I lost a hubcap on the way to Louisville one year, gave him a call and he overnighted one to me at the hotel no charge! Good luck, Dennis
I have good luck with Wheel Vintiques. I have used early wheel company as well, but beware that unless something has changed, his hubcaps will only fit his wheels, so you can't use gennie caps on any of his wheels.
hey man sorry to about your troubles.. i hate when companies try and rip people off. here is the BBBs page on Stockton. http://www.midcalbbb.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&ComID=1266000049000948 You can search for any company on the BBB website now, very good resource. This applies to anyone here it is an awesome tool, one day i wondered the net typing in random online/offline companies and to see some scary results. You can file a complaint through the main site. http://www.bbb.org/
Same story here. It took 5 times as long as promised and my front wheels had to be sent back because of poor chrome.
Any horror stories with wheel vintique's? Early wheel didn't have the 40 Ford style wheel on their website. I hate to wait another 4 weeks but I'm ready to find a real wheel company instead of scam artists and liars. Clark
you can if you send your caps to him - he'll put little rings on them so you can put them on your wheels. my dad did this. What about Paulsen wheels - I have ordered from him - he's not fast but he gets her done.
Summit sells the Wheel Vintiques but I don't think they have the 4" wide in stock. You might call ands see if they can get them. They have free freight as well.
everyone here is right Early Wheel is the way to go i have had them on my car for 4 years.. no problems... Pete is very nice to deal with too..
Clark, I called Wheel Vintiques about 14x4.5's and they said they were 6 weeks out. Due to a production issue. That was 4 weeks ago. BUT. They told me to cal Coker because Coker is their biggest dealer for those wheels and they'd stock them. Sure enough. I called Coker, and they had many 16x4.5's and 16x6's in stock. Same price as Summit, but Summit doesn't stock those. My .02
I got my wheels from Paulsen. Nice guys, timely service, good price. The chrome was "okay". One of the four wheels was a bit off center-runs okay and I'm not racing,BUT their "guarantee" says once you mount tires all bets are off and my out of center wheel wasn't noticible until the tire went on. I can use it but it's not true. There have been some not so nice threads about Pausen-do a search,so I don't know. I'd consider ordering again, though.
A few years ago my dad ordered a pair of 15 by 5 chrome wheels from Stockton Wheel and when they came in they were all rusty, boy was he pissed, he sent them back and got his money back. So yes I believe they suck!!
