I have an odd duck. 1962 AMC Rambler American Convertible. Put a built 4.9 Ford straight 6 in it with discs all around, AOD trans and 3.73 Traction Lok rear out of an Explorer. Fine tuning issues now prior to paint and need vent window advice. New vent rubber for this orphan is non-existant of course...and existing rubber is hard as a rock/original. Have been considering just "sealing up vent window" with black glazing urethane. Thinking about having a gl*** shop do it as they are no doubt more used to working with it. Any recommendations or advice? I almost never use vent windows so that wouldn't be a loss. Considered one piece gl***, but that is a lot of fab work...and convertibles tend to "flex" a bit...esp. with a torqey 4.9 six... plus the existing vent window frame is already "boxed" and has decent chrome. Thanks for your input.
don't seal it. nothing better than a vent window. do you have a photo. i would bet you could trim down seals from something else more common and make them work. first thought was mustang, cheap and plentiful.
Look for a 'Rubber Renewal' product; there's various ones out there, as well as methods that use common household chemicals. Most will require that you soak the part for an extended period for best results. There used to be a product made in Canada that worked fairly well (according to Canadian users), but it was supposedly discontinued. Couldn't be imported into the US for some reason. I had some metal chemically rust stripped many years ago, the process also rejuvenated rubber parts. The EPA shut that guy down....
Thanks for your input. Can take a photo soon. Good idea on the Mustang concept...will measure my friends.
