Projects Prefect / Willys /Kadett/Thames Gasser Build.

Windows are cut. All of them. The door windows are the ones that concern me most. I saved them for last. We decided to put all the windows in /fit and make any changes and then pull them back out before we paint.
I also have to put the felt /electric window regulators in the doors to. Again I'll probobly hang the doors back on the car and do it all at one time.
Cutting wasn't hard at all just slow. Gonna leave the protective film on till final install
Mick showed up with another toy. No way to hide it in the shop

 

One more pain in the **** detail done.

 

You are correct. Not hard just as you said pain in the rear. Let's hope I am as patient when I install them.

 

Where did you get your lexan? I've heard they have a bronze tinted lexan, thought that'd be cool. Your moving right along.

 

You can get it. But you will pay for it. A lot.You can also get red and green.
Mine came from American gl*** in Columbus ms. 4X8 sheet 1/4 for 256$.
The tinted could be had but again you will know you were there. We started to anyway but I am by nature a tight wade. Or as my son said - I can run over a dime in the hwy and tell if it's on heads or tails. The tinted was going to be dang near 500$ when we got it hear.
This sheet will do both the Willys and the Prefect. Good to have small windows.

Back 2 windows in. I did not remove protective film. Was a bear. There is no way in my mind that they could ever come out. GLad I decided to fit them before painting. Will make it much easier on final ***embly. Also detailed the scripts on the valve covers. Orange looks good. Injector stacks will also be orange.

 

Nice it's those little details that set good cars apart from the also rans.

 

Ok windshield is in. The bottom corners were a royal pain. I left the protective film on. I am going to let everything set for a while so the window rubber will take shape and set.
Micky did some fancy work with the mill. Built a new set of fuel pump mounts. Puts everything at a closer plain and level with the balancer so we don't ever worry about having to prime before cranking. Hey my old 300 horse is still good for something.

 

And it begins. The part I have put off the longest.
Side (door) windows were fitted -glad we have a nice belt sander. The electric window motors mechanisms etc mounted simple enough. Yes I went electric. The mechanical set up in my doors was going to be a nightmare.
This is after all a race car ( I've had one or several) where The windows didn't come down-I hated it, and to boot I actually weighed the stuff and when all is said and done it's not but about a pound difference. Gonna put my switches on my panel and throw the cheap stuff away and get them off the door. Less likely to break there. Will also glue and attach felt and tracks permanent.
No pics will get some up when finished. I am pleased with progress but this was the part I dreaded because there is no room inside the door and there is no easy position on or off car.
Could be worse I could have a door that was rusty. Lol

 

Jobs like that are hard on the back of your hands bumping them all the time on the small openings in the inner door.

Driver side door is back on the Willy’s.
The electric windows /regulators work well even with the protective film still on both sides.
Put seat and diagonal bar back in as well to double check.
Pete Clark at Fast Times Rods has one heck of a body. Bolted door back up, installed the shim back in the same place and it shuts perfect.
Even the latch locks clean. No double bump etc. The door handles /etc even work. I may put a small spring on the cable latch just to make certain the handles return to proper position every time without having to remember to pull handle up like the really old/or worn out stuff
Also marked the inside to make sure that nothing hits. I took a few pics some in the dark. Has a wicked flow.
I was well pleased. Now we’ll see if I can repeat it on the p***enger side tomorrow.

Yep I was very thankful. The p***enger side door went together easily today. Will install tomorrow.
Might change pace and cut and install the other windows in the prefect also. That will have all gl*** work finished and set.

 

Looks real good, if the manual regulators give me any trouble on my 40 chev, I'll go power.

 

I hate to admit it but-for 169$ from Speedway it was the way to go. Comes with harness and switches. It will fool you how fast and simple these are. Make sure the felt and channels are in good shape. The regulator speed is real fast.

 

Both doors are back on and open and shut correctly.
I even got the latch return springs set. Looks totally different with the doors back on it for the first time in 2 years.

 

Looks like those dollies are really paying off

 

It was easier at that level than when I took them off. That’s for sure.

That's an Antique and Collectables (A and C) body made in Buffalo, NY. They make a pick up truck body too.

I knew that Pete used a local guy up there, but I didnt ask. I have been so impressed with Pete / and the body that I have just been in a state of shock. My experience with fibergl*** bodies has never been this good . For no more than he charged and the quality . Before Mick retired and closed the business we worked with many fibergl*** bodies and pieces-was never this good. True I ordered a street body rather than a straight race body - but I have never seen one this good - everything fits , and the doors open and shut like steel- and I have had the doors off twice putting in the cage and putting in the windows and regulators.Put the shims back in exactly as they came and short of a small adjustment of the latch on p***enger side they lined up / and shut perfect. And to be fair I put factory style door handles in and could have done that myself when I was adjusting them to set level.
Again I am impressed. I wish they would do an Anglia/Anglia pick-up.

 

I think the A and C body is way better than the Outlaw bodies. The Willys pick up body can be had with an extended (5") cab and doors.

 

Good to know. I won’t lie I like the Willy’s pickup also. I really love the 33 like the Brizo truck.
