Hello would any one have a ford parts list I have a number and need to know of year and model.fuel gauge dohz-9280-b thank you
well trying to find a picture I think I found what I am looking for 67 ford pickup this is what I have
The part number you posted is 70 med duty truck number which may have replaced the one on the box which is 67 light truck. Sent from my Moto G Play using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
All Ford gauges are operating on 6 volt ( voltage limiter in dash ) until mid 80s . I used 12 to power stock dash on 48 F1 worked as good as when new Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
so a resistor is needed for this gauge I was looking at a schematic for a 67 pickup did not see a resistor?
You need a voltage limiter from behind the dash of a mid 70s wire the output of that to input of your stock gauges and all will be fine . That part is available from auto parts store as in NAPA
Napa has them, order an IVR for a 1959 Ford. It was spade terminal connections. Later years have Snap connections so it will fit on the printed circuit board. Both function the same but the 1959 is much easier to wire into an existing system. When properly installed the gauge and sender receive 6V pulsed.
I got a DOHZ9280B New off of ebay and a new constant voltage regulator and my gas gauge works! except every time I went for a ride, my gauge dropped way too fast. It was getting near empty today so I filled up---6 gallons in a 14 gallon tank. The gauge went to full when I got gas but when the gauge showed near empty, the tank was actually half full. Any ideas?
Sender arm isn't bent right, float arm too short, any number of things. Was the sender made for the tank you have or is it universal?
Thanks greybeard. The sending unit is correct and the bend matches the one I took out. Since its reading half, I wondered if I should put 12v to it but I think you have to have the constant voltage regulator in there.
Not a resistor this is what you want the constant Voltage unit: http://restorationpartssource.com/s...or-1965-mustang-daniel-carpenter-details.html This is how to wire one up.
1 ran the 6v gauges in a converted to 12v '47 tudor... I put them on a momentary switch, flick it on read them, flick them off... worked great for 2 years till I traded it for a parts hauling pick up...
This article tells how to build your own IVR from inexpensive components from Digi Key. This make gauges more accurate than the original IVR that came with the vehicle. I have built several for friends and they all said it was better than the original. https://www.allpar.com/history/mopar/electrical2.html
I took the gas sending unit out of the tank, grounded it and watched the gauge go from full to empty as I raised and lowered the float. It still drops at twice speed when driving.
I'm still trying to get my gas gauge working so I ordered a sending unit from Dennis Carpenter. He calls it a 1957-60 Ford truck gas tank sending unit B8C-9275-B I installed it with a full tank of gas and it only reads half full! Now I have a NEW Genuine Ford gas gauge, DOHZ 9280b, a NEW Genuine Ford instrument cluster voltage regulator, B7A 10804-B and a NEW sending unit from Carpenter. I was getting readings of FULL when tank was full but empty when it was still half full. Now I get readings of 1/2 FULL when the tank is full. I have good ground at all times, including when I am checking the sender, holding the sending units in my hands, (not in the tank) This guy on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-77-FO...709221?hash=item41d33aa165:g:QV4AAOSwPzhZ-dbi says you get the same voltage on all of the regulators from 1957 to 1977 so it seems my combination of parts should work unless Carpenters chinese made sender is the problem. What do you think? I dont know what else to try.
Your gauge is working and regesters someone here might know more than me on this sounds like the sending unit.Wrong resistance?
I'm happy to report that the good people at Dennis Carpenter agree that their new sending unit must be bad so they are sending another. Its got to be since the gauge works
