1952-59 Ford 1955 ford customline with 302 and a c4

    ok here i go i have a 55 ford with a 302 and c4 transmission and i drove it to daytona turkey rod run and wind fine untill i got in traffic in daytona it felt like it was jumping in and out of gear i pulled over and checked the fulid and it looked fine so i let it cool down the motor was not running hot only about 180 degrees ok so on my way home it ran fine untill i smelled someting when i slowed down smoke came out from under the car it was trandmission fluid my speedo cable came out and it was shered up the gear was still in the transmission i was wondering if anyone has heard of this or hand it happen. i pulld the pand off and nothing in the pan now im going to pull the tail shaff to check it
    any help is apreactied

    Your speedo cable probably dried out got hot and twisted up. They usually are greased up. I heard it happen to much older cars.
