Did a search, but didn't find this. Any reason to remove/replace the accelerator pump discharge jet tubes? Trying to rebuild 4 large logo 97s for my 327. First carb, I only took out 1 emulsion tube. Looked almost new, so didn't bother with the other. Second one, I pulled both, as they looked a little crusty, but nowhere near as bad as some of the pics I've seen. Just wondering about the discharge tubes. Thoughts?
Hmm... would have thought there was some response on this. Maybe I used the wrong terminology? I'm asking about the curved tubes visible from the top side, looking in. Look like a candy cane.
Go to the Ford Barn with your questions about Stromberg 97 carburetors. Uncle Max { Max Musgrove} is the Stromberg carburetor guru. He will be glad to help you with any questions that you may have.
I've read of guys blowing them clear. Somebody (Uncle Max or Bruce Lancaster?) talked about a small fitting they made for doing this purpose with compressed air. I don't think there is any need to remove them unless they are bent. No hidden compartment like the emulsion tubes.
Went to the Ford Barn, & didn't even have to ask. Just search. So far, mine have looked really good inside, so I'll quit worrying. Just didn't want to have a problem later on, & have to reopen any/all of them. I like the "fill up the accelerator pump with liquid, & push down" method. Should be pretty clear if they are open or not. Thanks guys.
I ended up doing this. The accelerator pump discharge jets were clogged, not squirting at all. I soaked the body in alcohol and threaded this copper tube into the power valve threads. The end of the tube is flared to press a rubber compressed air nozzle up to it. The tube is 5/16 OD. It worked, don’t need to replace the jets now. https://instagram.com/p/BcCs2UfB5TZ/
