Chrome Tony at Pacific Plating In the 'Couve. His son chrome troy runs the joint now. They do good work.

 

Here is a couple of shots from today's work.

Front end back in place. I had to get the rear end in place to balance the lift.

To answer an a question from an earlier thread, "Does a hot rod have to have chrome?" the answer is no, it could have polished stainless too.
Pinion angle set. Hot rod being built.

 

Not since that $550 burn out ticket at longbeach a few years ago!

I recall some of my gearhead high school pals in the early 70's talking about a guy called "chrome Eddie".
Apparently he had a Roadrunner that had a chromed rearend housing.
Things are falling into place nicely for you, keep after it.
BTW, I bet you have quite a tab running with the rollback guy.

 

You are up late my friend. That driver, Josh, charged me $320 for the tow to the body shop, the body back home, the frame back to the shop and the frame back home. Toss in a $100 tip and that is great door to door service. He is the only guy I trust with my cars.

I have only been down there once. We didn't stick around for the cruise night. I was lead to believe the cops were tolerant of such things during the cruise but I guess I was wrong about that. I notice at GG's Puyallup that the local police have signs everywhere and notices that are included in your registration that " burnouts are not tolerated and heavy fines and car impounding are implemented if your are tempted to roast your tires".

I am sorry I will probably never get to see this beautiful car in person but I will enjoy it's construction here. Thanks for sharing the build!

 

In the early years of the "end of the world" run the LBPD were (fairly) tolerant of this activity but some people just didn't know when to quit.
I witnessed some stupid shit back then and you know what Ron White says..............
"You can't fix stupid".

 

I'm sure you will get a chance. I plan to "air it out a bit" when I'm done building.

 

So is it righty tighty on the right side and lefty tighty on the left? Or vise versa?

Ok if by left you mean driver side you are correct.

BTW even during pre-assembly put a light smear of anti seize on the wheel/spanner machined taper.

 

You are correct, I meant facing forward. Right hand thread on the left hand side.
I didn't think about the anti seize, good call!

Funny, I was installing the rear end yesterday and I had dis-assembled the ladder bars for chroming, so had to re-set the pinion angle. Lucky for me the HAMB has a recent thread resurrection on that very topic. It was a PITA but after about 4 or 5 tries I got it.

Love this site. Makes a hack like me look like he knows what he is doing...some of the time.

 

Boys will be boys and some of the local events have added burn out pits so we can regress without penalty.

It appears such a query may be both redundant and self evident. Nice rim job.
What about the use of the safety clips? I never see anyone use them. Why not? And safety wire? I wont be ready for a drive for a long time but I figured I'd ask.

They aren't. Don't shoot me but they are So Cal. They match the fronts. They just slide over my ford drums.

They look the part through!.

I have to be careful on the HAMB as I violate a lot of rules with this car but that's why they call me bandit!

the reason i ask is i thought Buicks had left hand threads on the driver side, yet all three of my Buicks ['54, '57, '58] have all right hand threads.

 

Yeah. The thread is for the knock off adapters for my kidney bean rims. They are bolted over the covers (pin set) adapters. Shhhhhh

 

where do you get the heli cut gears for the quick change ?

 

My focus was more to the left side of that photo, and its not the Hot Wheels either!
