Hello everyone! I'm currently putting a 390 in my '64 Galaxie that I picked up recently off the List; and I was wanting to put a beefier cam than stock in while the motor is out. I'm wanting a cam that's going to be street-able while having a of idle-lope. Really I'd like to go about as radical as a can before the thing becomes undrivable, but mainly I want something that's going to give this engine a fair amount of low-end *** and sound pretty mean. The details on the engine/ car are
    C3AE 8015-H 390 block bored .03 over
'64 thunderbird intake (I forget the casting code for it)
    Holley 650
    C3AE-C 64CC heads
Upgrades valve springs (dual spring setup, not single spring like stock)
    Stock rockers
    4 speed
    3.55 gears
    29inch tall tires.

This is just my toy so I'm not really worried about fuel economy or it being remotely practical. So let know what you guys think, Thanks!

I've used Schneider Cams "little - big" cam with good results a couple times.
Or, just call Jerry Cantrell at Schneider and get his view. 1 (619) 297-0227. I had one in my 64 galaxie 390/4 speed and loved it.

I built the 390 in my '76 F-250 for use as a work / pulling truck. That said, it has pretty similar specs to your Galaxie motor.

Ford iron 4 bbl intake and heads. 9.5:1 Compression, 0.30" over bore, Long tube headers, Holley 600, etc.

I am running a Howard Cams Dual pattern cam (Part Number: CL252461-12). The idle is a little loppy, but still has decent vacuum for the brakes and such. All things considered, I am not trying to impress anyone with the idle. People do tend to notice however, when I p*** them on the highway, that 390 in full song, and 10,000 lbs of trailer hanging off the back.

If you want a cam with a a lot of chop to it look at Comp Cams Thumpr series. Iv'e never used one but from the info out their they seem to work pretty good.

I am using a comp cams 280 H in my 390 4 speed galaxie and it seems to work well. My engine has cleaned up Ford iron heads, edelbrock performer rpm, ****** headers,750 cfm carb and 10.6-1 cr.I am using points ignition with a modified ford distributor.

The comp thumper 33-600-5 will talk to you but for the money Summits sum-1793 is a good cam.

It seems like a lot of people like this cam, I'll definitely have to look into it.
