Projects 1955 GMC second series

  1. Yes if it was the original engine. However a lot can happen in 50 years. There is a pad next to the dist the engine displacement is stamped there. no code to deciper. I have a 228 and a 248 in my hoard. I once had a 53 long bed with a 270. Never owned a 302. I bought this 53 GMC Big truck thinking it would be at least a 270 and maybe a 302. I had to torch the hood latch to get the hood open. It was a 261 chevy with a froze and cracked block.

According to a chart I just read '55 was the last 248. I thought it was '54. The only pickup six from '56 on was the 270. A great hot rod engine for the street.

If you're referring to my 59 GMC, the engine and trans were long gone, when I bought the truck.

  4. there are pictures of a 57 chevy truck on the HAMB thread titled Score. It has the stamped rear bumper.

Very common in South East Missouri where I grew up, once I seen a bumper from a neighboring town in Mo. all the way up here in Buffalo N.Y., pretty cool sight..lol

Getting cold up here In Connecticut. Just ordered the suspension for my Willy’s jeep so I can get it out together and into my smaller garage bay.

Never realized how long these trucks are. I think I’m around 17’ bumper to bumper. I’m hoping to get it off the flat bed and inside before any snow hits. Plan B is to put the green house hoops up over the trailer to keep the tarp supported.

Haven’t been able to do anything with truck because snow is coming and need to put Willy’s together before I have enough garage space.

Grabbed the floor mats out of the back of my pickup to look at them for wear before I toss them and they really don’t show any signs of wear.

I would assume that is a dealer logo, but it could be the bumper manufacturer also. Pretty sure yours is a Barden, might google their logo. Automotive archaeology is fun.

It’s been very interesting. My 54 Willy’s has been a good history lesson as well.
