The attached youtube video is my maiden voyage yesterday of my 1963 Ford Falcon. The Falcon has been sitting at my parents and then my house for 8 years now. I rebuilt a 289 V8 engine for it. Replaced the worn Ford-o-matic 2 speed with a C4 tranny. Fixed most of the rusted floors and did some interior work. It is by no means done, but to have it moving again is a huge blessing. Will be seen at a HAMB show soon. Time to drive the tires off!!! you can hear my wife narrate and give the run down: Car died outside of Paso Robles in 1998 on a trip to Santa Barbara. It has survived through my college years, my marriage , two kids, three jobs and 5 house changes. B-Frz
I was too shaky! My very first rebuild of anything and it was working well. I'm sorry, the burn shots will come very soon. B-Frz
Very cool! Love those Falcons. One question, though: does your street end in a cul-de-sac at both ends? I guess that keeps things quiet.
Congratulations........ You are a LUCKY guy to have gone thru all the changes and have a WIFE who supports your addiction. I always liked the 63 fastback Falcons....and lusted after a Red 260/4 speed Sprint when I was younger. Now ENJOY it....you earned it.. .
Fantastic! I recently had the maiden voyage in my 47 Mercury too! It feels so good to have them move under their own power! Mine was 1996 - 2006. Like you, I have a very supportive wife! Congratulations and great car!
Yeah, that's a great feeling. I'm happy for you. The engine sounds healthy. As for the car, I smile everyday I start my 63.5!
I love it! ,,,I had a 63 1/2 Falcon Sprint when I was in high school,,,,same color,,,,The video brought back a lotta memorys,,,,,,very nice! HRP
Thanks so far guys...my wife has been very understanding even though she has hammered me daily for years to get it done or sell it. I'm sure glad I kept it. Fun times await. BigCheese327 - On the RHS the street turns right but it has a big turn around area also. B-Frz
very nice man good job glad to see you stuck with it! time to light the tires up through that corner and pull a Dukes of Hazzard style drift with opposite lock lol .. theres lots of room haha.
Well, that hits home! My wife and i bought "her" 63 about 9 years ago right after we got married. It was "her" car along side my 66 390 Fairlane. I'm thankful that i too have a babe that appreciates the stink of an old car, not to mention the stink of her husband. I was also curious about the double cul-de-sac idea. There goes the neighborhood! I hope you have some tree-huggers near by that you can hack off.
Nice car, and nice job. I was thrilled the first time I drove my '61 Falcon under its own power. I didn't yet have license plates, it ran like garbage, and the brakes barely worked, and I didn't have another soul to share my glee with, but I was so happy I was silly. You will now find that every single item on the car with begin to break systematically until everything has been rebuilt or replaced. Good luck!
I tell ya, there a ton of Falcons on this board. I punch in "falcon" in the search window every so often and find I'm losing ground keeping up with all the threads.
Awww man, that RULES! That falcon looks sweet too. If it were mine, I think I'd change the wheels and thats about it. .....ahhhh...what am I saying? If that were mine it would be getting an axle up front. Brings back memories of the maiden voyage of my Fairlane. First trip out and a cop falls in behind me.....Took it on a 5 mile jaunt (after the cop left). Took it up to 80mph......then remembered that I didn't finish installing one of the shackels in the rear. Only HALF of it was in place! ....and yeah I was shaking when I got home. ......hell, I took the Fairlane out the other day for the first time in like two weeks....when I got home I was shaking again. NOTHING beats the feeling of driving a car you put together. Its like drugs. CONGRATS!!!!
...oh yeah, I also wanted to say that NOTHING in my opinion beats an early 60's Ford. I'd take a Falcon any day over ANY Mustang..... Here is a vid of my Fairlane. Its shitty, but you might enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed your vid. That Falcon rules. Also, btw...I bought my Fairlane in '98. It was off the road from about 2000 - 2002, and been on the road since. I shut it down for a few months and do upgrades..... I feel a deep connection with it and I think I'll most likely have it for a very long time...(hopefully forever). I'd rather have my '63 than just about any other car made. Sorry for rambling....just wanted to let you know how cool your car is (in my eyes).
Thanks for all the great support. The list of minor things to do is huge, first off is fixing the rear tail lights. That way I can go to the Big Dog thursday NIGHT drive ins. I'd hate to get a fix'r ticket so soon. Thanks Yorg for an update on that. I think were neighbors looking at the Flapper Map. I use to go to the Happy Days drive in on Union long time ago. I like some of the suggestions, no straight axel (Sorry Tingler - love the video) Rims and tires may come soon. But driving and working out the bugs is A Numero 1 on short list. (New updgraded Radiator here Friday) LaGrasta - your falcon is still one of the top dogs for me - your not losen ground, you've already set a bar for others to reach. B-Frz
thanks frz. I used to live in SJ in the early 90s. I drove a 63 Ranchero, off white with "hair-on" cowhide interior. I've always wondered what happened to it. The plate said "KOWPUNK".
