Roadster Pickup Top Finished----Pictures

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by brianangus, Apr 26, 2006.

  1. Well Guys and Gals---I just picked it up this afternoon. This finishes my winter top building project, and I must say, I am very pleased with the job my upholstery guy did. My final cost has come in at $1691.00 for everything. (this does not include repairs to the paint I screwed up with fibergl*** resin, nor the replacement of the windshield which I managed to crack) (that was another $355.00,but I can't really count it as a cost for the top---more of a penalty for doing stupid things.)
It is incredibly noisy at 60MPH (I hadn't really expected the increase in wind noise). I think it really adds to the look of the vehicle. What do you folks think of it???

  12. looks great, I like the proportions. I know what you mean about the noise,
I ran a 31 coupe without a top insert or roll up windows for a while and on a windy day you needed earplugs.

    Brian,

The top looks great. What kind of noise has increased with the new top? Is there a way to improve it? I'm getting ready to build the frame for a top and have an upholstry shop do the fabric. I actually anticipated having less wind noise with the top on.

  14. One way to decrease the noise and the turbulence is to have the rear window on a zipper. Works great on my wife's Miata.

WOW....I like the truck ALOT more now....verry nice

  16. The increase in noise is wind noise from all the air buffeting around inside the top. It sounds like 10,000 sails all flapping around your head on a windy day.

I really don't care for it.....it takes the 'hot rodiness' out of an otherwise really cool roadster. Just my opinion. Anyways, as long as you like it and drive it....have at it!!

That A is just gorgeous. Color, stance, top - everything. I love it. And I do sympathize with you about the wind noise with the top up. My '34 roadster was a great car to drive with the top down. But, put the top up and it was just plain hell. The noise and the wind whipping on the back of my neck was unbearable. I hated it!!! I sold that car and never really regretted it.

Which probably should have ocurred to me when I agreed to travel to Columbus and back in my friend Wayne's '30 Model A roadster. All those BAD things came back in a hurry as the weather was horrible and we had the top up all the way there and back. My neck didn't stop aching for a long time after that trip.

Nonetheless, I love your A. Enjoy it.

That style top was never meant for todays freeway speeds... just keep it under 30 and it will be reasonable quiet. (haha)

I hav a '28 Roadster, same problem. I have side curtains, if I run one of the curtain the top ****s up. No flapping. Living in Canada you could maybe use some curtains too.:D

I like it. I had a model of a little yellow pickup almost like it when I was a kid. It takes me back to my Monogram and Revell days.....

Top notch. Very nice. This ain't hot roddy and kinda ****y, but some wind wings on the side might take care of some of the wind. I had a 36 roadster w/a Duvall w'shield at one time and installed some removable wind wings, only had them on while driving. Just a thought.
