I am putting my 48 Plymouth 217 engine back together & with the new dual carb setup the old throttle linkage (ADJUSTABLE KICK DOWN LINKAGE) is too long & I'm not able to adjust it short enough. I'm attaching 2 photos to this. The red engine is mine & the silver engine with the 2 arrows is another HAMB guys setup. I need a rod that has the bolts on both ends (arrows point to what I am describing) & the threaded adjustments on both ends to make it short enough to work (as seen in his picture). I'm trying to avoid altering or having another made. Does anyone have one like the one in the photo with the arrows?? Thanks, Mike
Easy to fabricate... 1/4" steel rod, cut to length, thread it. You can get steel rod and those ends at a hardware store. Sent from my Moto G Play using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Greybeard, Just asking, but you think a hardware store is going to have throttle ball joints like the ones the arrows are pointing at?
I know the local Ace does. They use them on lawn mowers and tractors too. [emoji16] Sent from my Moto G Play using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
go to an auto parts store and look in the Dorman catalog..they should be able to get them for you click here : https://www.dormanproducts.com/gsearch.aspx?type=keyword&origin=keyword&q=throttle+ball+joint
Ok Buddy I never thought of trying Ace & looking in tractor supplies. I should have since I just had to buy all my cloth wire from Brillman.com (a antique tractor restoration company)!! I guess I'm just getting so frustrated with all the little modifications since I went to this new setup that I've lost all my common sense.
Thank God for my HAMB family & for knowing Tim Kingsbury.. AND it's a small world.. The photo above of the silver engine linkage just so happens to be Tim's car... LOL... Here's his advice to me... That 1st picture is my 1949 Plymouth. It was the 1st car that had our AoK triple on it, and I had no idea how much adjustment I would need. You really don't need the double adjustment. Now your second picture of yours. I have marked it up. See attached. A is the connection point for the rod end which I have marked as B. Obviously the rod is too long. ***uming A, is all the way back, meaning the carbs are at idle and C, being the pivot point on the head.. that is is all the way back (towards the drivers side) meaning the gas pedal is not depressed... or in other words its at idle. The D is where you would mark on the existing rod. D would be the point where once the rod was shortened that B would then connect to A. We would shorten the rod, thread it and reconnect the end so it could be connected. You need to send the rod which is between point B and C. We do not need the pivot point on the head. Do you follow ? If so if you can get it sent to us as soon as you can we can get it shortened and sent back. Tim Tim Kingsbury
