Hey, Im about to start running a 327 with a 750 holley 4 barrell. I think its probably too big but has anyone done this before?? Would a 650 be better??

    Cheers-

  2. Going on the price of fuel around here at the moment, a 650 would probably do the job! :D
Seriuosly though I ran a 650 on my 351 Clevo (stocky) and it worked well...

I have a 650 on my 327 in a 30 A. Great set up...one problem is that I need to rebuild it after one year of cruzing. It might of, probably was the error of a local garage who @#$% it all up. But it ran great for about a year. Check out Demon Carbs heard great things about them.

the 650 is plenty. It's easy to over carb (or cam for that matter). The car will be just as responsive and stay out of your wallet as well with the 650. PLUS someone needs the 750 so you can recoup some of your cost.

I'm running an Edelbrock 600 CFM with a manuel choke on my mildly cammed 300 horse 327 and it's a real good combo. I know from past experience the same carb in a 500 CFM would work just fine too. You really don't need a lotta' CFM on a SBC! (contrary to a lot of popular opinion) My 2 cents only.

what kind of holley is it? vacuum secondary? double pumper? how is the motor set up? cam? stock heads? The hotter the better.

The 750 rating is at WOT

It will run fine if you don't want to buy a new carb.

This ia the formula to use to work out what CFM you need,
cubic inch of engine X maximum revs, divide this answer by 3456.
    327 x 5500 = 1798500 divide by 3456 =520 CFM
    327 X 6000 =1962000 DIVIDE BY 3456 =568 CFM
THIS IS ONLY FOR NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINES WILL NOT WORK FOR BLOWN ENGINES:)

  9. It will run fine. Ours is a bored 327 with a racing cam, .202 heads, fenderwell headers and a chokeless, race tuned 750 dbl pumper. Loads up a little at idle but runs great overall and is faaaa***sssst :D. Of course at stated it isn't the most economical way.....

I've got a 600 Eddy and if I change it will be to a 600 Holley just because I like the looks of the older carb a bit better. Crane Energizer 3/4 race cam, headers, 1.94 heads and 10.5:1 compression. I get about 15mpg and the car has plenty of seat-of-the-pants power.

Thanks heaps for the replies guys. The engine is a rebuilt 327 with mild cam etc. Carby is square bore, vacuum, CFM 4 barrell holley.
Engine will run both unleaded and gas, this 750 is the only one we have and yeah going off what you all have said, I'll eventually buy a 650 then sell the 750 and shouldnt lose too much there!
Thanks again, really appreciate all the info and stories here!!
Oh and incase your wondering, car is a 63 chev with drums...

I have an 800 CFM Edelbrock on a .030 over 327. It ran like a champ in the 1/4 or 1/8 mile. It is sitting on a Weiand Team G air gap intake with a 2" raised plenum. I hope to spring it back to life soon in the Gunn. I need to rig up a harness so I can fire it to keep it fresh.

For what it's worth, many years ago I had a 327 30 over with a Holley 650 double pumper. Worked great. Nothing could touch it.

    I like that 600 more.
