Knew that car pretty well. When Dean wasn't home his brother Jack and I put his Halibrands on Jacks 31. Wish I could find the picture. Dean didn't kill us but i'm sure he was tempted...LOL

 

1950. Council Crest Car at N Interstate and N Portland Blvd ( Now Rosa Parks way ) From PDX.history " After retirement, wheels and equipment were removed from Car 503 and it was donated to a North Portland Boy Scout troop who used it as a clubhouse. "

1950's Long Beach, CA Pine Avenue
Hello,

Nice photo clip of the downtown Long Beach's Pine Avenue area. I wrote a synopsis of this photo and area back in November 2017. These decorations were the tops in the local area during late 40’s, all through the 50’s and into the 60’s where they started to lose their luster as an attraction. In the late 40’s, we could not get over someone decorating a main street in a downtown area. The 50’s had some slight improvements, but, other than cruising down the Pine Ave on a Saturday night date in the 60’s, it kind of lost something over the years.

Other places began to outshine Pine Avenue and it became the go to place for new folks to Long Beach, but for us “old” locals, other places had brighter and fancier decorations. Like the boat parades in San Pedro and Newport Beach (They are the two of the longest Christmas Boat Parades in So Cal) and the Huntington Harbour homes.

But the little kid, bright eyes and street decorations of this early time period were just something for the times.

 

Always took the hubcaps off in the winter before I could afford to take my baby off the road in the winter.

 

Uhh, that's gonna leave a mark...

Cool mods back then. Lots of rear "roll steer" combined with negative caster. And booze was blamed for that nauseating feeling as a passenger.

 

Might be questionable today.....

 

Jack McGrath in 1949 although I'm not sure at what track. I could be wrong but I believe this is the same car that Johnny McDowell had his crash in at Milwaukee in 1952
