I seen on another site Bob Glidden is ill. Has anyone else seen or heard this?I done a google search & found nothing.
Wikipedia lists Bob Glidden as p***ing today December 16, 2017 I've read on the Facebook too that Bob has p***ed. RIP
I'm saddened to read this. Bob Glidden is an intelligent man, a talented driver and a true champion. He would earn the #1 that appeared on his cars. Here he is with son Rusty. These photos aren't to irritate the moderators or those stuck in the past, it's a nod to a champ, but delete the post if you really feel the need.
Here is Wiki on him. I enjoyed watching him and Grumpy racing each other over the years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Glidden
Glidden spent a lot more time racing W.J., Darrell Alderman, Kenny Delco, Jerry Eckman, Lee Shepherd, Larry Morgan, Frank Iaconio and others than he did Jenkins. Grumpy was backing off of driving when Glidden was starting to hit his stride.
He was a deep thinker with a gifted mind and a tenacious racer, the perfect package for winning. A champion in every way, Godspeed Bob.
It appears it was some fake news that Bob Glidden had died. I know he is not in good health in recent weeks.
I place Bob right up there with Big and WJ. Men who innovated, dominated, and did most if not all the work to get to the top. RIP
Glidden dominated pro stock in a Ford decided NHRA didn't want A Ford to win with there weight brakes changed to an LA powered Dodge and dominated it then pack to Ford.
The new NHRA rules for Pro Stock probably mad him sicker. Bob Glidden was a tireless self motivated , dedicated racer who championed the rules . The 2018 rules are a total joke. Chevy motors in Ford bodies, Mopar motors in a Chevy. foreign car bodies being allowed with any brand power.
Race in peace, Bob. He will always be my hero. Watching him race is what made me want to race. I was a die hard Ford man in high school and Bob carried the torch high and proud for the few of us Ford guys. The fact that he was a mechanic as well as a driver and his crew was his family makes him even more special. I will never forget you Bob. R.I.P. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I think so too. I've looked at every site I know of and have found nothing on it. Somebody just jumped the gun looks like....
I remember the time he asked me to occupy his big ole chocolate Doberman while he was wrenching, Spring Nationals, late 70's. Sweetheart of a pooch that stood about waist high IIRC. Helluva nice guy and a true Champion in all respects.
unfortunately not fake. RIP Bob https://www.nhra.com/news/2017/hall-fame-nhra-pro-stock-driver-bob-glidden-p***es-away
Bangshift has a nice history of his records and wins. Ford man extraordinaire he will be missed RIP Bob https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320/bob-glidden-died-73-one-singularly-dominant-drag-racers-history/
Man, what a shame. I couldn't get enough of the 85-87 Thunderbird Series. His 87 T-Bird blasting off the line was just spectacular. RIP Bob.
What a shame. A true racer who lived to race. He will be remembered as one of the best ever. I remember at the division points race at Beech Bend in 75 , we were running a G***er and Bob was pitted not far from us. His motor was trying to drop a valve during eliminations before the days of the big crews and having spare motors in the trailer. Between rounds he would pull the rocker arms and plugs and run a tool in the spark plug hole to hold the valve closed and take a hammer and beat end of the valve until the retainer was seated and then run the valves and go on to win the race in typical never give up Bob Glidden style. Most guys would have loaded up and called it a day.
