Are there some I.D. numbers on the Model A frame/running gear? The cowl tag is blank.. I need to start getting this thing legal...

    Thanks, Stank

Mine is on the top of the left frame rail (drivers side) directly behind the front cab mount hole. If the body is on the car you can't see it. You will have to raise the body and probably wire brush the frame to see it.

The ID number is in two locations. One is stamped on top of the frame between the frame and cowl on the drivers side. It should have a star at each end. The other is stamped on the side of the engine. Either can be used on your ***le.

Ford had it together when it came to ID #'s, the one on drivers side frame and engine are the same. Chevrolets not same. Things changed in the early 50's. Good luck at the DMV be sure to do your homework

If you have the engine check the block...if it is gone...probaly check the frame under the drivers door. Your going to have to take out the body bolts to be able to see them if thier thier. If not thiers always....

Cool, that helps a lot ! O.K. heres another question, If I build custom frame rails and put a Hemi in it, I'm guessing I'm gonna be screwed when I get it inspected (Missouri) or try to transfer ***le...????:(

You will have the best success getting it ID'd in stock form, after that you can do whatever you want. Sugestion and only a sugestion would be to cut out section with #'s on original frame than weld in same location on new frame. I believe in CA where they id cars of that era they did it with the engine # and that posed a problem with chevrolets because there #'s were different ( engine- body #). This showed when they replaced there motors in effect they had no ID. So the answer at that time was to allow the garage who replaced the motor to restamp the new motor with existing id and the owner went to dmv and filled the necessary paperwork. As someone said in this forum before you are about to enter the world of oz. So my advice is get it ***led before any changes are made.
