I just got a copy of the program from the GNRS. Did anyone take a picture of a 27 Crysler touring? Its bright red, full fendered, looks like Merc caps and whitewalls. Owned by Tom Lawson of Ranch Santa Margarita, CA. I'm dying to see a better picture than his entrance photo. Thanks Tiny
Well, Howdy, Tiny! I just saw this and thought that you might like to see the Studio photos of the 2006 GNRS Cl*** Winner for Hot Rod Touring. Enjoy and thanks for your interest!
Good. How in the heck do people find posts that are that old? I guess by a search but man, 12 years? - EM
Can't say that time is anymore my friend that it used to never be...but at least Tiny got to see the Paul Oxman Studio photos of my Parade Car shot by the incomparable Scott Williamson at PHOTODESIGN Studios . In case you didn't know, it was the official parade car for Victoria, Australia from 1927 to 1966, Oahu, Hawaii from '66-'78 and then Bishop, California from '78-'91. My friend Bill Thomas bought it out of the Bishop equipment yard in '91. I bought it from him resprayed and partially ***embled and restored it to 98% but when the President of the Walter P. Chrysler Society failed to call me back after leaving him 13 messages because I needed a lead for the the small parade-car only tiny carriage lamp style side markers. My adopted brother Jeff Tann (the editor I worked for for many years at Rod & Custom) and I while driving up to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield decided: "fu*k it, let's make a street rod out of it" since those high brow, blue blood, holier-than-thou, puffy-headed racer-haters ignored my repeated requests to get the parts I needed and to give them the opportunity to register the car in their Registry so that it could retain its rightful place in history. So I found a 392 Hemi at the Reunion swap meet, turned it into a Street Rod Builder Magazine (April, 2004) and American Rodder Magazine (March, 2004; May, 2004; July, 2004; November, 2005; May 2007 magazine project car after which I was honored to win the Hot Rod Touring Cl*** at the Grand National Roadster Show in 2006. Donny Shirer at Dream Cars did most of the work (with Warren Boughn at Precision Street Rods & Machines supervising the IRS Install)- TCI Polished Stainless IFS (Thanks, Sal), Gary Heidt's Polished Stainless and Aluminum Show version) IRS, with the Hemi-roid mated a 700R4; had Margaret and Joey at MO-MA put their creative juices to the original gauges and finally asked my decades old friend and s***ching mentor the GREAT Mr. Eddie Martinez ("Rod & Custom Magazine FAME" [as it said on the sign outside of his shop for decades in Bellflower]) squirt 1992 Oldsmobile Spectra Master Red on it, build a correct 50's style Pinpoint top and s***ch his legendary Tuck n' Roll out of Ultra Leather making it a truly *****in' Touring and well, kinda rare. And the piece d' resistance? The Chrysler Society saw the magazine articles, called and told Jeff to chastise me for "destroying" such an important piece of Chrysler history and that he should be ashamed for participating in such a sacrilege. God Bless him - Jeff said simply: "well, you should have called Tom back!"
We're glad they didn't call you back. That thing is frek'n *****'n' ... and I'd think ole' Walter P. Chrysler would say the same ! I always liked @Tiny ('s) Dodge touring that he sold fairly recently .... but I'll say, yours is likely the best yet. Hope you still have it.
Glad you liked it - it is still in my Museum (which is actually the lobby of my building where my business is housed) It is such a departure from the norm that I just can't sell it even though the offers pour in when people see it. It runs as good as it looks - that 'roid really pushes it down the road and with IFS/IRS it rides like a virgin Caddy. Goes sideways pretty good too!
