69,000 original miles, original paint, few dents, small rust spots...

It's the Special so it's the straight 8. Were these pretty strong engines? Are there lots of parts avalable? How hard would it be to drop a nailhead in there if need be? I don't know too much about Buicks... so any info would be great. Thanks guys.

Oh, any mild custom pics would be coo too. Thanks.

I'll take the side trim that you will want to throw away.[IMG].

Ive no experience with the small series 8 so no help; there are a bunch of owners on the HAMB however.

The nailhead swap is pretty straight forward. The reason they made the nailhead the way they did is so it would fit in the straight eight engine compartment. If you get to that point we can discuss it some more, but just know it's not a bad swap...

Buddy of mine has the same model here in Barrie, Ontario. He has nosed and decked & shaved the hood, trunk and door handels. It is painted black & turquoise. Top speed is about 60 miles/hr. If he maintains that speed gas consumption ****s. Great car for cruising and he gets good comments wherever he goes. If you would like to talk to him let me know.

  7. Long story but a girlfriend had a beautiful 50 roadmaster with a cracked exh manifold. One day we hit about six diffrent peoples yards in the Langley area that had early 50's buicks. That green one up on the Fraser Hwy has been sitting out in front of that house for YEARS and he's a nice guy, then about 1km from that I know of one stashed in the trees, theres one in a car port at 200st and about 47ave. There was up off 200 at about 88ave that was in the driveway for sale a while ago and thats all I know. Before we went on a manifold hunt I didn't realize there where big and small straight mills in those cars. She found on the island from a junkyard as they have a 47 or 48. Good Luck..

  8. Parts are pretty easy to find, for engine, trans, brakes and stuff anyway, some cheap, some expensive, gaskets and brakestuff are real cheap!
    I´d say get it!

    Here´s mine...

Get the car - it will seduce you with it's gentle curves and soft purring...

Okay, maybe I like my Buick a little TOO much...but seriously..

Mine is a '50 with the 263ci small-block Straight 8. It's not fast but it'll maintain 65 all day. There are adapters to pur 700R4s behind them, which is col since it's not the engine's fault the car is slow, it's the transmission. Dynaflow means dynaslow, and it's teh horribly inefficient torque converter that's the true culprit. They simply didn't know how to design a good torque converter yet, so we get these slushy pieces of **** ahead of the Dynaflow. Still..there's plenty of decent rebuild stuff out there for the engine (Try Egge Machine for stock-type parts), and if you're an engine sadist, do what I'm doing and rebuild the enigne with modern internals. The '53-era Straight 8s made about 125 hp/220 ft-lbs. of Tq. They're smooth as silk and sound really cool through Smittys.

Buick stuff is catching on with restorers and rodders alike...These Harley Earl cars really do look cool, and the lower they are the hotter they look. The '53 is a beauty.

I have a '50 and I'm adding '53 trim to play on the bodylines. If you need help with something let me know...If I can help ya I will.

here's a dreamy '53 for you to whack off to.

In 53 they had a new converter in all models, with 2 turbines inside, its a little better but still no rocket...

I love the Buick 8 engine, and mine's always run good (other than the valves bending probably due to hydraulic lock...my fault). I can run it up to 90 mph and get 15 incredible miles to the gallon. I love the hell out of my '53.

  19. Found this photo of Deborahs buick. She sold it fall of 03 for 7k. It was a neat car. Believe it or not but she bought it as pictured, running, driving etc for under 2k. Long story but a nice car on the CHEAP...
