How many are there known to be still in exhistance? Someone told me that there were only 3 known to be left and I really thought there were more than that.
Did you find one? I'm pretty sure there's more than 3 left. I had a guy tell me he was bringing me a Pierce Arrow, he wanted a grand for it. I told him bring it, I'll give him that. It was a PACE ARROW motorhome! A mind is a terrible thing to waste
There are a fair number of them out there, personally I'd like one of the six cylinder models from 1907-1912.
He may have been refering to the Silver Arrow Pierces...they were a limited production car...it seems i heard there were only 3 of those left.....
You're right, of the five that were built only three exist today. They were very advanced for 1933, claimed to be good for 115MPH. this one was/is in the Bill Harrah Collection in Reno.
There are two Pierce arrows sitting in the Gallery area in the Industrial Design building where I go to school (academy of Art university) so I really highly doubt there are only 3 left.
A local guy must have had at least 20 of them, plus a lot more in parts. Most sold at an auction a couple of years ago. Rare, yeah, but a lot of them are left.
One of my friends is helping with a mechanical restoration on a Pierce Arrow right now. He said the only reason they can still get parts for one is because of the LaFrance firetrucks!
They were high end automobiles. Even the garden variety probably spent most of their life in a garage. It seems that every time I find some neat art deco do-dad at Hershey, the vendor says that's for a 34 Pierce Arrow...I just carefully put it down and sheepishly walk away. I know their headlights are very distinctive but I think the early ones are ugly.
If you use the posted link in Vaphead's reply and follow it you'll find that the Pierce Arrow Socirty thinks there are about 2500 cars still left.
Pretty sure you are thinking of the Silver Arrow (I'm impressed with how many here know of these) 3 accounted for. I thought only one had disappeared. I read someones accounting of finding one abandoned in a river bed and restoring it. Pierce arrows were never built in great numbers, had always been exclusive cars. Studebaker bought the company when PA went bankrupt in the late 20s or early 30s. I think they continued until 36 or 37 but with the economic recession of the late 1930's they left the scene along with Dusenberg, Auburn, Cord and REO (automobiles) They were considered true classics early on and have long been in the hands of collectors. I can't remember the last time I heard of someone "finding" a Pierce Arrow.
I knew they were pretty rare cars, but his 3 car estimate was just unreal. I really kind of doubt that it is a Silver Arrow as it is supposedly under a pile in his garage, lol. I will have to check it out and report back some time.
