Roadster Pickup Top Finished----Pictures

  1. It might be "unhotroddy" and "****y", but if you look close you will see that I am running clear Lexan windwings on it now. They are damn near invisible, but if you look at the windshield posts closely, you will see the chrome mounting brackets above and below the rear view mirror mounts.---Brian

My bad, didn't notice, I was overcome by the awesomeness of you hot rod.:D Then, I have no suggestions for wind noise.

    Looks great Brian

I always describe driving the roadster with the top up as like living inside a b*** drum.

Does your rear window open? Mine does infact the whole back panel unzips and folds into the top. You get much less noise but retain the weather protection that way.

Love the name, it reminded me of the Hairy Canary airplane my brother and I used to play with as kids.

  5. When I designed the top, I decided that I didn't want the rear panel to fold up like the Ford originals---Why---well, I wanted the material on the top portion of the roof to always be tight, and not "balloon" or "cave in" at high speed. Since my topframe is made of steel, not wood, there is no way to tack the material to the main or the intermediate top bow. This means that to keep everything tight, the material is stretched from where it attaches to the windshield header, over the top bows, and anchored to the rear of the body section of the roadster body. If that back panel was a "fold-up", then when it was folded up there would be no way to keep tension on the material between the forewardmost top bow and the windshield header.---I am still finding things out as I go along here, but the wind noise may be something that i have to live with.

  6. I wanted to call it the Hairy Canary after a drag car that ran in the late sixties to early seventies, but in this politically correct age, I figured that there were just too many "overt ***ual overtones" to a car called "Hairy Canary"----I didn't want to get bashed at every stoplight by outraged feminists.

VERY NICE! We are starting tonight on the top for the Flower roadster truck, which I hope comes out half as nice....and I'll be happy. Beautiful truck!

Love the truck, hate the top. I think it looks awkward and breaks up the look of an otherwise nice car.

I'm still wondering if there is a way to improve the situation. Many years ago I had an Austin Healy 4-seater with (of course) a rag top on it. There was never any excessive noise that I recall. That top was about the same size and configuration as an A roadster top. ???

Canary shouldn't be a problem Brian. Now, "beaver" might be a different story.

    Brian,

Just a thought. How about using small straps s***ched to the top on one end, and velcro fasteners for the other end? The straps would connect the top with the metal cross bows in the area where the flapping is occurring.
