About 15 years ago, at the company I used to work for, they put a GMC 671 motor up for bid at the surplus yard. I was bidding on some other stuff and bid $5.00 on it not really expecting or wanting it. I was the only bidder and really had no way to offload it from my truck bed. I took the blower off and sold it to a local truck repair place for s****. It's been kind of like garage mascot for the last 15 years laying under the work bench or wherever it gets pushed to when I need room.
Wanna double your money on it haha I'll even pay the shipping Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just in case you do buy or sell it. Costs $60 to ship one from GA to MI via Fastenal. You have to specify 'Parcel Shipping' for the good rate.
If that was mine I'd put it out of sight just enough to see a couple of those yellow case ribs. Then wait for people eyes to light up the minute they spot it. Oh wait, I'm thinking how I'd react. Any body else have the same reaction looking at a big lump of aluminum.
Yes the grease fitting is for rear bearings only the bearings I use in the rear have no seals in them but if you use the single row sealed ball bearing you can take the seal off the back side to allow the grease in The drive snout has a bearing in it too I use 80/90 gear oil in the front cover to lube everything I usually just fill to the lower bolt hole in the triangle plate I install a pressure relief valve in the top of the front cover and that's where I fill it at then remove the lower bolt of the triangle plate when the oil runs out just put the bolt back in then the pressure relief valve If you use stock bearing plates you need to install freeze plugs in the lower corner hole or the gear oil will run out lol those are oil drain back holes on a Detroit diesel When I get home after the holidays I'll try to get some pics posted Chrome don't get ya home
I found my 671 in a salvage yard I had been going to for years. Finally looked inside a 50's GMC school bus that I had walked by several times, and there it was, first seat behind the drivers seat.
Looks like it may have been from a marine engine. I think that is the raw water pump? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My understanding it came from a 671 Detroit from a truck, it was very greasy when I brought it home. I have seen others with the same water pump.
How do you know how much boost you can run with an otherwise mostly stock engine? I know the actual boost pressure would be dependent on the air restrictions in the intake manifold, heads, exhaust, etc. Just watch for pre-ignition, overheating, etc? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Experience tells me that if it doesn't have forged pistons don't run more than 5 lbs of boost Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
No that is the water pump on a 6-71 Detroit there are other accessory drives on the engine for things like power steering, air compressor, and all other things that need to be gear driven most accessories like the pump you are speaking of were belt driven at least in the dry land area of things lol haven't had much experience with marine stuff since I live in the middle of the country lol
I was just at tractor supply and yes the have the bearings the exact number I posted Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Considering a major failure of a bearing will likely wreck both the rotors and the case, I'd spring for bearings of higher quality than the typical no-name Chinese bearings found at tractor supply. You can get 6205 2RS bearings from Amazon for around $15 each in quality brands like SKF or Nachi. You can also buy 6205's in quan***ies of 10 from unknown Chinese manufacturers for less than $2 each. There's a reason for the difference in price.
I was saying that these are the numbers that were in the kit not saying anything but that do what you will with numbers buy whatever bearings you like just trying to help save some money with the part numbers Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Like I said DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH THE NUMBERS cross reference buy Chinese ones buy Jap buy use whatever. As I stated I'm sure you can buy them cheaper then the kit I bought some of you people would pick fly **** out of pepper . Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hell, get your bearings at H.F. then you can throw your blower in the corner with all your other s****.
I'm using them right now just got back with a new set I like em alot the sloppy bearings add to that whining sound from the blower .Some people you could hang with a brand new rope and they would complain Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Wow.... Tough crowd... Don't think this thread is gonna last that long with every body bickering.... Chill out, have a gl*** of wine or something...
Not polishing it I'm not a fan of polished satin finish it is all together though Sent from my Pixel 2 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
