No problems at all with anything. Using Firefox, commonly with several tabs loaded. One possible clue, running from Australia I am usually on line when most of you are asleep (or should be). Maybe just the numbers trying to get on at the same time.
Quite slow, IE, no errors...cable modem Now that I think of it, I did get a "page not available" when I tried to reply to several threads - but the posts went through and I hit forum jump to get back to the page. Mutt
IE.....slow.....sometimes "page not available"....my provider is going through an upgrade and i was just putting it down to that
Running pretty good here But I use dialup so it has to be really slow for me to notice. Oh yeah running Firefox. Dawg
Not bad in the mornings...ie (5:30-6am EST) when all you so-cal folks are in bed...or passed out. Slow in the afternoons & nights. too many people on the server?? so Spotty on IE
On wednesday and yesterday the connection to the HAMB timed out 3 or 4 times before I see the HAMB. Firefox (latest version) Browser. After posting yesterday it took very long to see my posting (like 1 - 2 minutes).
Ryan, I use Internet explorer, i havent noticed a change in speed, but I went to check out the board yesterday around 2 p.m and I couldn't access it,but it was back to normal when i checked it again a few hours later.
Using the AOL browser it will time out about half the time when I try and open the HAMB. Change to IE and it will open right up. But it has been slow opening some post ect. Seems A-OK to day though
Sometimes it's a crapshoot. I wonder how badly the Yahoo Slurp Spider is hogging your server resources. It has 76 users on line now vs one from Google and one from Ask Jeeves. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp/slurp-03.html
Been off and on speed-wise. I use MS Explorer at work, but the connection could be our firewall here too. At home, Firefox gave me the "server not responding" screen yesterday. But when I refreshed the 'page, or went back one and refreshed, it was okay. Brush-to make sure your Safari runs "clean" in OSX, dump your history, cache and cookies about every 30-45 mins. Makes a difference.
Hillbillydeluxe.....I dumped the history,cache.....but the cookies...where are they located to dump? sorry for the dumb question Ryan.....seems to be running fast today.
Brush- No problem. I didn't find it immediately either. When in Safari, go to your "Preferences" in the upper left corner. I can't remember exactly, since I'm on the PC at work now, but there should be a menu item that will read "clear cache" or "empty cache". That will clean up your cache. For cookies, look under the "Preferences>Security" tab. Then, you should get a window like this: http://homepage.mac.com/yidaki/safari-cookies.png Hit "show cookies", and delete them. Good to go. For clearing history, do that in the drop down menu for "History" (if I recall correctly) at the bottom. Should work okay. Two little things, though. I'm not yet running Tiger, so I'm unsure if these will work 100% for that version. Last, when you open "Preferences", there is an option to "Reset Safari" Don't do that unless you want to wipe out your bookmarks, Autofill preferences, etc. Hope my memory is working to offer up advice.
Many Thanks HillBillyDeluxe! I will get on to that and give 'er a whirl!........funny thing is...it takes me about 2 years to get used to an operating system and then they change the damn thing! LOL thanks again. Jeff
No problem. Anyone else running a Mac with OSX and Safari can try that to see if it helps browsing speed and access. I just wish the system here at work was as understandable. Corporate firewalls slow everything down-like snail speed. Now I gotta look for something to post in the Art Page thread. . .
"Slow, couldnt get on this afternoon. Got a message from the web devloper? or something like that. Said the database was having some problems and to try clicking the refresh button. That didnt help." Same deal as a/fxcomet. The above situation happened to me yesterday too. Kept trying and finally got on (after probably 10-15 minutes) - then no problem after that through the day. Its been REAL slow most all the time in the last few days. Everything seems like its running a minute behind. Moving to the next page sometimes takes a long while and photos load very slow. Some seem to take forever I get the HAMB at work during the day (Internet Explorer) - not sure about the hardware/software used, but I know it is a pretty zoomie setup and at - or close to - state of the art technology - so I wouldn't think that's the problem.
Funny you should ask. When i tried to answer the question just a minute ago the whole thing slowed to a crawl. I got out of my chair and returned with a bowl of Cheerios and the thing was working so I think there is some sort of cereal port thing going on or an OAT level variation. Past 3 days it's been spotty, sporatic and spasmotic and that's just my brain. Using Comcast broadband. Usually using the dispised AOL but this morning using IE. Noticed that my cache seems to be filling faster that usual but haven't made any connection to the Jalopy Journal. My rate of spelling errors has gone up but I attribute that to sleep deprivation. Heading to west coast STOP Will write when I find work STOP I miss Western Union already STOP
Inconsistent choppiness. Meaning sometimes it loads a page right away and sometimes it stalls and than gives me an error message. Mac - Safari
Same way for me over the last few days. One minute its popping from one page to the next quickly, then all the sudden it stalls & gives me the "page not found" message. Yesterday after lunch I was getting a "server not found" message & the HAMB wouldn't load at all. Microsoft IE, cable internet connection
Ryan: browser: Microsoft protection: Symantec w/Norton Antivirus all of yesterday i got the white screen of death when i went to log on to the HAMB. It said that an email was dispatched to the technical staff and the problem would be fixed. Also I have been getting lots of server not available errors and refusal to load pages.
Ryan- Don't know what you did, but she seems to be up and just flying from this end. . . .(11:45 EST)
It's been slow as heck a few times over the past couple days, but other times just fine. No errors. I log on in the morning, and check in throughout the day. At work I'm using Internet Explorer through a university mainframe, and at home I'm on dial-up.
