I was kinda thinking the same thing. Asking 1.2 Mil, I would expect 50 good pics, and specifics on engine, transmission, etc.

  5. gotta love the non-formatted descriptions all in CAPS. For that money it'd better come with a nice looking woman.

    Shit,

You could get Alan Johnson to tune it in your back yard for 6 months for 1.2 Million- what a weinerschnitzel. This is what Ebay has come to.

Well, I see 10+ pages of Big Bucks=Crazy, cuzz I sure wouldn't give that for it. I wonder what the original Stone Woods Cook Willys is worth....or Garlits first Swamp Rat.....or even the Eliminator Coupe in Vinces avitar.
Only takes one person that thinks its worth it and we have a couple of happy campers.
I guess I've added my meaningless post to this thread, time to call it a night.

i was thinking hacked acct but all of the items bought/sold are actually car related. usually someone hacks some poor old ladies acct who normally sells dolls, plates, whatever other crap and post a 2005 M3 for like 15Gs hoping some schmoe buys it and there is no car to be had.

Very little detail on the car....ie mill & trans specs....ooohhh hell maybe it dont have any?????....has anybody done a history check on it to see if it is the real deal? ...and the deposit of 2k makes it sound even more dodgy.....ebay and another local (NZ) auction site have blown prices out of the water .....no more decent deals anymore

WOW! thats a steal! i think i'll jump right on that one (if only you could hear the sarcastic tone in my voice).

if i had money coming out of my arse i think i'd still have a hard time spending that much money on a HOUSE let alone some old race car... now, i don't think i'd have much trouble spending that kind of money on a garage though. HMMMMM! something to think about.

i think you could buy SEVERAL very nice and equaly as cool cars for that kind of money. ...or build a whole fleet of clones and enter them in the demolition derby. what the hell, it's only money, right?

Maybe there's a Saudi Oil Shiek in the neighborhood clamoring for an item like that for a mere 1+ mil!

I'm familiar with this car and its story. I also know who the seller is. The car and the history behind it is genuine. The seller has several historic gassers and is probably sincere in putting the auction up...it's not one of those overseas scams. I'm not advocating anything...the price is way outta the ball park, but that's the real deal Virgil Cates car. It was a pretty well known gasser. I think he used to pull the front end off and run it in the altered classes too-ran in the gas classes and altered at the same event.

  24. This guy has a severe problem with decimal math.

1.2 million DIMES... maybe. And even that'd be pushing credulity.

Sounds like this clown and the guy over on the classifieds who's asking $500 for a set of wheel trim rings are cut from the same cloth. - LOL

Cates was a "player" on the national scene for sure, but never an overwhelming performer. Certainly not on par in "cachet" with Ohio George, Mazmanian, SWC, etc. Even if he was, the price is insane.

Oh well - a boy can dream. Leno had an e-bay bit on last night with some crazy shit that went for big bucks (like $1,800 for a stuffed Chihuahua). If he can land a stupid-rich sucker, more power to him.

silly e-bay buyer...1.2 mil gets you a couple of pictures and a hand job.

if the cars is as good as he says it is, we should see it at barrett-jackson this year. or even the Pebble Beach auction.

  27. you guys are just looking at the dollar signs this car has got to be listed in the top 1,000 willy's ever and if it sells for even half of the buy now price!! I'll put everything I own on E-bay next week haha!

here I'll give my fellow HAMB'ERS first shot.

This is what happens when auctions get too much TV time. People start thinkin' that owning these old historic hotrods are the best way to invest their money. Blow the prices through the roof. As soon as the stock market starts hitting again - these cars will be back on the block.
