I'm rebuilding a 1940 ford 1/2 ton pickup. Not the traditional perfect bolt numbers matching and not a boxed framed Chevy motor replacement. This has a 221 c.i. flathead that has been overbored to 239 c.i. and a 400 jr. Camshaft. The original 4 speed on the floor and the body and frame has only had the rust removed and replaced with good metal. It's got tube shocks and I've done everything by myself by hand. What I didn't buy, I made from whatever I had. It's been so fun and all I want to do is drive it and work on it to make it better.

Paint those heads and timing cover red! I've had two '40 pickups, a '39 Deluxe Coupe with '40 trim, and my '40 Standard Tudor my Dad bought in early 1965. It is not going anywhere until I die! Then it still stays in the family. I love '40s. Yours is looking good! Dave
I feel like this truck deserves to be retired from heavy work but still driven. I just want to drive it and still feel all the bumps and bounces off the way it was in the 40s. The whine of the transmission and the lump of the flathead. I get allot of thumbs up
That is so cool. I'm rebuilding the bed on my truck and I envy yours. I'm cutting out rust but no new panels. The stake pockets are going to be new but the rest is patched. By the way my wife calls my 40 patches.
I thought about rebuilding my bed, but careful inspection revealed that the only parts worth fixing were the bed sides. I decided, in this case, time was more important than money. I have about 30 hours in ***embly and install of the new bed.

Will do. I'm working on the bed and a friend sold me a set of 1935 ford spoke wheels so I'm cleaning then up also
I'll keep adding pics. I actually put out on the freeway near Boise today. Did real good up to 70 mph and stayed comfortable at over 65mph
The 1940 Ford truck is a cl***ic. Have one myself. Bought it with a sbc in it. Wish it had a flathead like yours. Good luck with it. Butch

I failed pre race inspection at swap meet and test tune drags but got info on what I need to be ready for the nostalgia drags. Found a cool tach and some seat belts from A 50s ford too.
I think it's a 3:70 . We did the math and that' what it seems to be. I had it up to 75 and I think it will top out at around 80 somewhere. I found some polished 4x8 sheets of aluminum diamond plate I really like I want to use. It' soft but looks great and it' cheap, $100. Also light . The brakes work much better than I thought they would. I have a 70 camaro with manual disc brakes and they feel comparable. I see why people use 40 juice brakes on there deuces.
