Hi this is my first post as I'm just begining my build jouney.I'm looking to buy some 16 inch traditional style steel rims for a 28 RHD roadster I'm building. . Im going to run 5 x 5.5 stud patern. Can anyone recomend a good place to buy them. I live in Sydney Australia. thanks Nick
contact your local Early Ford V8 Club an see if someone has some original 40 to 48 stock rims, there is a variation in width, but you should be able to get 4 good ones all the same width.
Maybe check your rego requirements first as I've heard that some engineers require safety rims so original wheels are not allowed.
Nick, i am looking for a pair of 15 x 5 with the 5.5 bolt pattern if you happen upon any.........for my Model A roadster pickup project
This is good advice - not sure about New South Wales but if you are building a hot rod in Western Australia you must use safety rims - no original wheels on hot rods (note restored car with original rims are ok - just not pre 48 hot rods). As swifty says it would be usefull to check with your TAC or engineer before shelling out any cash or more time on this until you know for sure. If you do need safety rims one option is to replace the outer hoops and use the original centres.
How about Willys or early Jeep wheels. They are 16" with 5 x 5.5" bolt pattern. Should be easier to find than 40-48 Ford wheels (at least in Europe) Hennie
