When I was assemblying parts to put the 350 in the Bel Air I was all excited that I was going to get to use my M/T valve covers that I had picked up at a swap a few years back. Thought I finally had all the bugs out of the drivetrain and started driving more and started coming up with huge oil loss from the drivers side valve cover, problem was the valve cover was tight and straight. The culprit(s)? High volume oil pump and a valve cover with no baffles. Oil is shooting out of the rocker and hitting the bottom of the breather, exiting the breather and running all over the damn place. Guess I'll run those ugle ass 197? vc's with the wireloom tabs on them for a few days until I come up with something better Guess my M/T's are back to being wall art!
Is there any room to weld in a baffle? Another option is the rubber grommets with the built-in baffle.. assuming there is room. Moroso makes them, as well as others... part number in Moroso is 68775. I don't have a length on them... but its around 2" tall.
Built in baffle eh? Nifty. Related question - I'm running a SBC 350, just over stock but with Weiand stealth intake, 600 edelbrock, full length headers, am I good with just one breather? I have a filler cap on the pass, breather on the drivers. Thinking I need to cut the vc for a breather on the pass side?
Have had the same problems on comp ones on a race car and same with the M/Ts on my old truck. On the race car we just bent a piece of thin metal around it and drilled to ting hole and used two screws......at the time it seemed good but after reading what I just typed that scares me to think what would happen if those screws came out
I have M/T on my 327 with a high vol oil pumb and have no leeks. No baffels on drive side either? Don't give up just yet!
Maybe if chevy machined the mating surface you wouldn't have this problem? Or if the put oil deflectors of some sort over the rockers? The first M/T covers were designed for engines that don't piss oil all over the place -Pontiacs. I love mine.
