My neighbors blown sbc fiat is in the background of this picture. Steve was the cop in the hot rod feature of the choppers cc back in the day. Man I miss wrenching with him. RIP Steve Sent from my SCH-I435 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Some of these photos were posted in the Drag Cars In Motion thread a few year back but I was using Photobucket at the time so the images are no longer visible there. All are by me from Australia and from various tracks around the country. First up is Roger Hoare's Vigilante. The frame was by Don DeBring and the engine is a six cylinder Holden (Aussie GM) that is a bit like a 230/250/292 Chevy but smaller at less than 200 cubic inches. The wheels were all locally made with 12 spoke American clones on the front and 3 spokers from Tony Andrews' Custom City on the rear. At the time (1968) the car ran road race style rear tires because slicks were hard to source down under. Bob Dunn's Terrifying T in its second configuration. A while back a photo showed up in this thread of the car when it ran a VW torsion bar front end (as removed from the donor VW) but by the time of this shot (68 Nationals at Calder Park near Melbourne) it had a more conventional straight axle. Power came from a big block Ford and the paint was purple metalflake by Bob who owned a crash repair business (body shop in US speak) and Dunn also ran the 3 spoke rear wheels. This is the Bassett and Watkins Fiat with Falcon six cylinder power, seen here at Adelaide International Raceway. Again the front wheels were locally made American clones as were the rears And this is one of Roger Bassett's earlier efforts, a flat head powered Mini. The photo is from Brooksfield Dragway, an 1/8 mile track that was the first drag strip in my home state of South Australia and the first place that I raced. The Henry Pacifico and Rob Quatrocchi altered that preceded their series of Pro Stock cars in later years. Sorry for the somewhat soft focus but this was an available light shot of Jimmy Walton's Hard Goa AA/A. Walton later ran a series of funny cars including the former Gary Densham Teacher Pet Monza and although retired from his transmission business he still finds time to crew on the Peter and Helen Russo funny car that runs the west coast races on the NHRA big show tour. Roo
John Reschlein and Tom Trisch were out of Illinois but appeared not to be be afraid to travel as during the early 70's the car raced at several west coast events, running in Competition Eliminator. The first version of this car was small block Chevy powered with Cragar rear wheels but it appears to have had the red and gold color scheme right from the start. The bantam was followed by a Donovan powered 23 T with Tom Trisch again driving but with new partner Barlow and later the addition of Watson. Tom then appears to have got back with Reschlein to campaign a Charger FC for Ron Pellegrini before driving Larry Adleman's BB/FC Vega flopper in the early days of Pro Comp. The last record that I found of Trisch driving was in 1985 when he steered the Golden Eagle Trans Am TA/FC Roo

John Reilly and David Powers out of Dubuque. Iowa. This is the fourth car that the team campaigned, replacing the Fiat in which Tom Roshek was also a partner after that car (below) crashed. Read more about the team here: http://www.encyclopediadubuque.org/index.php? title=POWERS_AND_RILEY_RACING_TEAM This story stops a little short of Powers' final involvement in drag racing as he came back to the sport in 2005 with a top fuel team that raced until the end of the 2008 season. Some more cars from the lower side of the planet. We will start out with Brian Hutchesson's Outlaw Fiat seen here running with Y block Ford power at Brooksfield Dragway, South Australia's first drag strip. The car was originally flathead powered using the motor from Brian's first drag race car, a Morris 8 tourer (tub/phaeton to those in the US) That Y block was replaced by a Windsor Ford in Hutchesson's next altered, seen here at Adelaide International Raceway. This car has recently been restored by Kym "Slightly Dangerous" White although the restoration runs Y block power. Here is Hutchy again this time racing long time friend Phil Reilly's small block Chevy powered Pig as he is in the photo above. This is a somewhat later version of the Pig, now running injectors, zoomie headers and alloy rear wheels My previous post had a shot of Bob Dunn's Terrifying T and here is a later version and again the photo is from AIR. This track was a bit like Lions in that the spectators could get really close to the action with the low chain link fence being only about 10 feet back from the concrete wall that bordered the left lane. 1961 and the second consecutive class win for the Ratican, Jackson, Stearns team at the Nationals having also scored in Detroit in 1960. Don Ratican built the motors, Bill Jackson did the chassis work and Ron Stearns drove. Read all about the team here:http://raticanjacksonstearns.com/raticanjacksonstearns.com/History.html Roo
"Pete Millar" NOT Pete Millar. The caption was for the photo above this one on George's web site. "Pete Millar, the famed creator of "Drag Cartoons" and his supercharged Fiat Topolino Competiton Coupe at the Winternationals at Pomona." Is should be pretty obvious that this is not a Topolino or a Competition Coupe. Roo
Monkey Motion was owned by Gil Hayward but not sure who is at the wheel as Gil had a string of drivers. Bud Geary and Bob Walker in the far lane with one of the last small block AA/FA's. Photo is most likely from around 1965/6 as in 1967 Walker teamed up with Ken Dubose and Larry Eads to field this car with big block Chevy power. In 1968 the car gained a 392 Hemi and became the Genuine Suspension Special with sponsorship from Jim Thomas With funny cars scoring all of the match race bookings an AMX body replaced the Fiat in 1969. Roo
The Jackson Brothers (Les and Cal) out of Denver, CO. A Mike Peek chassis that has survived and is currently racing in updated form. Read about it here: http://www.rodauthority.com/feature...ored-the-original-high-heaven-aafuel-altered/ Roo
Built by Jerry Kracinski as detailed in this thread here on the HAMB from back in 2008. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...bonnie-clyde-please-help-with-history.281415/ Both the 32 and the "Copperhead" 57 Chevy in the other lane were sponsored by White's Pit Stop, now in Schereville, IN but formerly in Dolton and Tinley Park, IL. Roo
The Hillbillies team (Mike Fisher and Roland Pratt) later went on to field an Avenger funny car (the UK small car not the US version) Roland Pratt was known for his chassis building skills and built quite a few front running cars over the years including the UK version of the Panic altered. The car in the far lane is the Bond Bug bodied Metronome and you can read about it here thanks to Brian; https://bangshift.com/bangshift1320...n-hemi-altered-based-on-a-bond-bug-micro-car/ Roo
I guess that I missed this one when you posted it last March but Joe was out of Joliet, IL and as seen on the hood side it was a Kenosha, WI built car and may have been one of the last that John Buttera was involved in building as half of R & B as the car was racing in 1969. At this point it may have been running fuel as it has zoomie headers on the 488" Chevy as opposed to the collector style pipes that were on the car at Indy in 1969 when it ran gas. Joe is on record as having run 50% nitro in the car with a best time of 8.13. In 1970 Arrigo stretched the wheelbase and added a Camaro body along with a 514 cubic inch motor and ran with the UDRA injected F/C circuit through 1973 Roo
Thanks to Gary Reynolds I can tell you that this is the Egbert Bros, Seaman and Cooper Outcast 1 fuel altered out of Edmonton, Alberta. The body was a steel second generation Topolino with a first gen nose in fiberglass. Here it is in restored form with a bunch of noted Pacific northwest and Canadian racers including original owners Gary Egbert and Brent Seaman Roo
A re-run from last March but still the late Charlie Smith out of Oklahoma City. His twin brother Frank ran in A/Comp and his son Todd is a fuel car crew chief currently with Kalitta Motorsports. Charlie was the NHRA's first "hots" world champion in 1963, the year that the organization split the door cars from the open wheelers rather than having a single overall points champion. The following year the program expanded to six categories and Charlie was again the champ, this time in Competition eliminator. He later added a blower to this car and finally stepped up to a funny car but when that was wrecked in a towing accident his racing career ended. He passed away in 1998. Roo
