I am trying figure out what engine i have in theis '50 olds that i bought. the body is a 1950. the heads have a number 7 on the center exhaust port, which i think is a 1954. the problem number is the block. it has the number 563922 on the bellhousing on the p***enger side top. does anybody know what block this is? i measured the bore which is 4 inches. the stroke is approx. 3.5 inches. is this a 324 block that is punched out .030-.040? or is it a 371? hopefully somebody out there can give me a direction to go in. thanks

Look at the left side of the block, between the exhaust ports, there's a flat spot with the engine number stamped in.

    Starting #'s:
    1950: 8A-194001
    1951: 8C-1001
    1952: R-1001
    1953: R-215001
    1954: V-1001

    Head Casting #'s:
    early 303: #2
    1954: #7
    1955: #8
    1956: #10

    Cubes Bore Stroke
    303 3.750 3.4375
    324 3.875 3.4375
    371 4.000 3.6875
    394 4.125 3.6875

i think i have a match with the #7 heads. The numbers on the driver side deck are V2####. i beleive i have a 54 324 punched out to a 4 inch bore. Thanks for all of your help, I really wanna run this engine and not "just drop a 350 in it", like all the sheep keep telling me to do.

It sounds like a 324 bored .125 over with standard size 371 pistons in it, making it a 345. Since the 371 had a taller deck height to componsate for the longer stroke, the compression height stayed the same as the 324 piston.
