Step 22: Wait until you have done a bunch of metalwork, then have it sandblasted.
What's the fun of welding on perfectly clean metal? There's no challenge to that.

Step 23: Weld things. Hit more things with hammers.
That beltline on the drivers side had about a dozen bullet holes. I hammered the torn metal down flat and welded it up. It was so much fun. Not sure if cutting and patching the area would have been better, in retrospect. In the big low crown panels, I should have made patches instead, for sure.

Step 24: Go with an oddball engine so your car is impossible to sell later on. Make motor mounts again.

I like your style. I've driven this just as much as you've driven your cars, so I have that going for me.

 

I would reposition those jack stands; it looks like the frame isn't making full contact to the stands. Could be trouble or "step #25"!

 

I like to live life on the edge. I've been posting this entire time while standing on one leg.

 

Step 25: Do more chassis things.
Maybe hit it with a hammer too, just in case.
Oh yeah. That first pic? I had some bars sitting around that I built the rear suspension around. Then decided I didn't trust the Heim joints. Made new bars with P&J bushings, cut out all of the mounts and redid them. I make good decisions.

Step 26: Remember that roof stuff that took so much time? Cut it out.
I bought a cheap english wheel, and I always hated the roof corner. Why not hack it out?

Step 27: The other roof stuff? Yep. Cut that too.
I sure hope that sliding ragtop doesn't leak too much, because it was a lot of rework to make it fit. If they do leak, don't tell me, I want to be surprised.

You don't have to do that. I've hit a wall and haven't really worked on it much since October. If you start doing things, you'll just make me look bad.

 

For a dude named Johnny Sparkle your car doesnt sparkle very much. But this build thread isnt done yet I guess. I vote metal flake lavender.

 

Now I've got to go back and hit the like button on all this shit. This thread is so good, even everybody's replies are golden.
The only thing I can think of that would help would be to do something completely on one side, change direction, put off doing the other side until you forget how you did the first side, then start that shit over, too.
If cars only had one side, instead of two, all my shit would have been finished a long time ago.

That is a cool project!

 

It's been stretched over 5 years and my tools and standards have changed as I go. It seems like I'm making an instant decision change when I post it up, but it's really years in between. I'm practically a different person compared to the guy that started the project.
