My wagon was a 292. I have replaced that with a 302. After reading many posts on the radiator needed for this swap, I am totally confused. My 302 has the short water pump putting both the upper and lower connections on the p***enger side. I am running a manual Tremec 5 speed transmission so cooling for an automatic is not needed. What do I need to get for a radiator? 2 row, 3 row, V8 or 6? From what I have read, the mustang radiators, circa 1967 fit, but which one is best? Does the new radiator mount in the stock U-shaped radiator support bracket? I plan to use an electric fan, hopefully between the radiator and the water pump. Many of the photos and links in the FAQ pages for the radiator are missing or broken. I am still stuck as to how the support mounts to the front cross member. Thanks for the help. Bill
This is the one guys used in the past with the short pump: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ALL-ALUMINUM-RADIATOR-FIT-1967-1968-69-70-FORD-MUSTANG-3-ROWS/121983130350?fits=Year:1968|Model:Mustang&hash=item1c66c2daee:g:4mcAAOSwrhBZEoES&vxp=mtr If you go electric you should run a shroud this is a good buy on a combo you may have to do some slight t*******. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASI-Radiat...d=232590315365&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
Get this too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Electric-C...ash=item3f7b88525f:g:DiIAAOSwUIhZZJ9e&vxp=mtr Autozone lower hose C70445 is longer than stock pre-curved and can be trimmed.
I put a Champion radiator in my car when I swapped out the 6 cyl for a y block. They are a direct replacement so you won't need to fab anything to make it fit. Also they will put the inlet and outlet where you want and have shrouds with electric fans.
Most SBF water pumps are 1 3/4" lower hose the police unit is 2" so hose fitment will require some creativity.
I don't think you'll need the extra capacity. My y block is fine with the standard version. The best thing would be to call them and talk to a rep about your set up.
Thanks, I missed that 2" outlet detail. Although it could be overcome with a bushing on the standard pump inlet, I'm curious if the interceptor engines came with a different pump.
That may depend on which radiator you decided on,I ended up with the old coat hanger trick,I bent it to the approximate shape I needed and measured the I.D. I needed and the manager at my local Autozone let me go fishing on the rack, look up several Ford applications and part numbers to narrow your search after 1970 when more cars had accessories like A/C the hoses were usually longer.
A while ago I had to swap the oe radiator for a new one. I bought a Champion cc4348ch intended for 43-48 Chevrolets. Aside the replacement part (which was around 400$) this was the best fit I found. Same measures, same place for water inlet and outlet. But... I'm using the 6cyl so I imagine my task was a bit harder than yours.
If installing a 302 in a 55 Fairlane what side should the inlet and outlet be on a aluminum radiator? What size on the inlet and outlet, 1 1/2" or 2" Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
