I love gassers but $1.2 million????????????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Blacktop Graffiti, Apr 27, 2006.

  1. Thanks to Barret-Jackson and all the drunk, fat bastard, trophy girfriend toting fucks that have ruined the sport for "US", the guys that actually know how to enjoy these cars. At that price, that Willys will go in a warehouse somewhere, never to be seen again, instead of me making nutruns in it on San fernando Road.

I saw that car at Thompson's gasser reunion a couple years back. A friend of a friend (or something like that) ended up buying it shortly later. Rumor had it that it was sold for something like 60 grand. Which at the time I thought was an unbelieveable deal - all things considering. Helluva markup huh??

Certainly not on par in "cachet" with Ohio George. Even if he was, the price is insane.

ironically ....the guy that originally had it ....also restored the ohio george 33 willys....and i think that owner was originally wanting 100k or so for it....neat car....but then again ...all of the now owners stuff is cool......brandon

  5. For dicksizers only to show what they can spend. Zzzzzz!

And into another climate controlled mausoleum.

It's all so deadening this idolizing, eulogizing and monument building. Just a vast cemetary neatly groomed by droids until the power goes off and fighting breaks out in the street.

This is all for the past. The dead and buried. A bunch of mummies in sagarphegus (sp) surrounded by the holy objects with which to enjoy to fucking afterlife.

    All sealed up and airless.

    Bleech!

Apparently there are a lot of folks here who haven't been paying attention to what historically significant race cars are going for these days as retired multi-millionairs are fleshing out there collections. Last year at Barrett Jackson the '70 Chevelle Super Stock (454/400 turbo/ convertible) that won the world finals in 1970 went for over 4 million dollars. Kinda makes a 1 million and change hot rod Willys look like the Blue Light Special at K-Mart.
Buy the car, take it to Barret-Jackson and bank a couple million profit. I can't wait to see the reaction if it actually happens.

Did he restore it for George, cause I thought Ohio George never sold any of his cars?

I'll agree that this thing isn't going to bring a fraction of 1.2M, but I understand the historical significance which is tough to put a price on.

Could you imagine the Ohio George Malco Gasser 33 Willys, or the Stone Woods & Cook Swinlder at Barrett Jackson.... Anyone want to take a stab at the value of those cars?? :D

  8. It was only 1.1mil for Ray Allens LS6 SS. Still, nuts.

Exactly. I've always wanted a 70 sublime Cuda conv., and just about the time I get ready to start hunting one up (from about 2 years ago to now), every completely rotted out Cuda with nothing left, is worth, or the owners now think they're worth, 25K. I suppose the next stop is 100K for a pile o' rust, better get in now.... . The point is no one with regular, or slightly larger than regular pockets is EVER going to own one, not one of any provenance anyway.

I guess like 32 & 34 Fords, a guy can start buying a quarter & a fender here and there, a cowl section, etc., and weld one together that looks the part. Heck you could probably weld one together and drop a crate Hemi in it and get 200K.

BTW, I taped the show where Don Garlits interviews the guy about it. He said that a friend of the family had it in their basement for the last 30 years or whatever, and he finally bought it, and put the original stuff back on it, except the injector, it's not the original. He made a point of saying it had the original helium from back in the day in the tires and he hasn't even had to air them up.

Frank, the convertible Chevelle SuperStocker brought $1,200,000.00. Where have I seen that number before??? A Cuda brought a little over $2,000,000.00. I gotta admit that I don't think that ANY car is worth this kind money. But if I thought there was a chance I could sell one for that, I believe I'd give it a shot.

    Back to work.

Thanks guys for the correction on Ray Allen's chevelle convertible. Small (or big) case of brain fade, I was thinking of an other car. Still not bad for a car that won all of the significant SS races that year and went into storage some time after. Better return than ANY savings account:eek::D

You'd think for the money they're asking that they could at least pull it outside and take a couple of pictures of it. I have better pictures and descriptions for stuff I auction off starting at a penny. It's cool but I bet it wouldn't bring that money even at BarretJackson.

i know the owner & i know that it is the real deal, although i think that asking $120 grand would still be too steep. it is not that famous / significant.

    Hey folks,
I see people here talking about the lack of pictures and discription. Would you give big bucks (say anything over $50,000.00) with out actually crawling all over the car to see what it was or wasn't? And as far as discription, no one is gonna give the big bucks for it unless they already know the history of the car and what it actually is.
I think all Ron is doing here is saying the car can be bought, if you want it bad enough come talk to me.
    Larry T

BTW, the price tag is getting the car lots of free publicity---isn't it???

The Malco Mustang did sell, cause here's a couple of shots of it from last year. It's owned by Ray Helger in MA. This was at his speed shop open house.[IMG]

He made a pretty wild exibition pass with it at Epping last year.
Ray has big balls driving, but he had to wipe himself when it was done!!

This is a different Mustang. The Ohio George car was a gasser, not a funnycar.

Just to poke a hornets nest with a stick, has anyone looked at the Cates Willys auction lately?

That gut is full of shit if he said that the 30 year old slicks were still full of helium. I used helium a lot a while ago and know at least a little about the makeup of the gas, helium has an ultra small molecular structure and will leak out through solid rubber.
Thats enough for me not to buy anything from him, if he lies about something as pointless as that what else is he shitting everyone about?

I never watch auto auctions on tv, but I caught part of the Barrett-Jackson last night and saw a 1950 GM concept show bus ("Parade of Progress" or something like that) apparently set a record at $4,200,000.

It WAS a snazzy looking bus.

Do I have to pay capital gains if I sell a million+ car?

It's nice to see Ebay bringing together like-minded buyers and sellers.

    1.2 Million Dollars?

The Clown Party has officially taken control...

    Hold the Phone Folks,

Looks like somebody clicked Buy It Now, as a cruel, cruel, joke. Check the Sellers feedback...

While I don't condone this type of activity, I think its sort of appropriate in this case, or at least entertaining, or maybe funny? I dunno anymore.
