E3E623C5-E619-47EC-AC42-8812EBBF5A41.jpeg one for today...been retired now 2 weeks...for anyone contemplating but a little hesitant on retirement, if you can swing it moneywise, do it. My stress level has all but disappeared. I actually went grocery shopping with the little lady yesterday, first time in 47 years of marriage. life is good

Congrats, I'm envious, I wouldn't hesitate for a second, I'd retire right now if I could.

I've been retired 4 years now and love it. Worked for 46 year. It took about a month before I thought, "the last time I was off this long I was 15". That's when I felt retired.

    upload_2018-1-12_7-46-51.png 1965 San Jose, CA
    Hello,

It was time for an update on a 1965 drawing. When I was away at school in Nor Cal, there was a little empty feeling. (800 miles away from our So Cal stomping grounds, the beach, the climate, atmosphere, drags, etc.) So, between classes and at night, I started to draw from the past. I drew what I thought our next build , after 1960, for the street and drags could be.

It was a similar set up with our 40 Willys C/Gas coupe, except this time, A 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery built up with a 671 SBC with a C&O Stick Hydro and equal length headers, etc.
So, jump to the current state of mind and I updated it to what color it should have been…
upload_2018-1-12_8-0-24.png The modern version, originally had black rims and Baby Moons, but I already saved the Halibrands/whitewalls, so wa-la... everything got sharpened up a little with more detail and sharper lines. (late nights in 1965 were interesting...) I was happy to be in school, but sad that I was a long way from So Cal. Within 1.5 years, I came back to Long Beach, met my wife, finished school, and became a So Cal local again.

Many years later, we started a skateboard scooter company called Sunshine Scooters to make some extra money to survive the economy. I made custom, one of a kind scooters using blank skateboards and accessories with a wooden, then chrome moly, T-bar handle.
upload_2018-1-12_8-12-39.png upload_2018-1-12_8-12-52.png mommy and daddy version
upload_2018-1-12_8-13-25.png Original, little kid version transformed to wide decks and chrome moly T-bar handles in the production line. (like the adult ones, but a smaller size)

We had to have a delivery vehicle to take the custom orders and mass samples to the skate/surf shops all over So Cal. Our El Camino was cool enough, but we needed some pzazz to get people to notice us. Of course, the first choice was the ever popular 40 Ford Sedan Delivery , updated from the 1965 drawing. (did not do this drawing back then, but recently…)

In real time, a build was not going to happen (no time or money), so the next choice was a 1965 red Chevy Malibu 2 door station wagon with the same old scooter drawings and lettering on the sides. One was picked out and ready...but,

    Jnaki

We finally stayed with the practical, 1965 red, El Camino and delivered the scooters to the shops. This went on until we were obligated to do a factory recall and quit the business due to obnoxious, extremely high, liability insurance costs. (this was 23 years before the Razor Scooter phenomenon) So, into the attic the parts resided until another "Spring" clean out years later.
