To belive such a youngster like me ( 22 physically mentally the car club i started is still trying to determine my exact mental age and state) has a taste for older vehicles and machinery and can still blend into a crowd of dim and short attention spanned kids is unheard of!. But believe me friends and elders of the H.A.M.B its true I caught the bug and caught the bug bad. Even with my taste for the past I still manage to communicate well with woman my age, however there are times where even my peers think I'm speaking a foreign language: 1. When you speak about old cars and old car parts or any history at all, and your words are met with a glazed over look 2. When you listen to older music or old country full blast in the car 3. When the only thing exciting about the fast and the furious movies is the cars and when the movie is over 4. When you go to a swap meet or yard sale and get excited when you see old tools or ( to me anyway ) perfectly good nuts and bolts 5. When new cell phones don't excite you 6. When you Think building a car, or doing work in a shop is more exciting then partying 7. when your more concerned with the items function then making it look good 8. When you still would rather call someone then send a text 9. When an old movie comes on you try to find all the old cars. 10. When Humor found funny by older people is not funny to Millennials 11. When you look at a newer truck thats lifted and find it to be ugly and pointless. 12. when you dream of owning one new vehicle and alot of older ones 13. When you would rather talk to a person face to face instead of face timing 14. When your not worried how many likes you get on social media 15. When you can be entertained without use of social media 16. When history channel or Shows that actually have technical information about cars and building things that move, Are more interesting then reality shows. 17. When your idea of a roadtrip is going to junk yards with old cars, places with history or The Drag Strip 18. When you still get a joy outta listening to cl***ic rock stations 19. When your driving down the road and can name a old car sitting along side the road without even trying I could name more but thats all i got for now. I will add though i'm proud to say even though i feel a little outta place when i am near my age group and more at home with older folks, everyonce in awhile someone in my generation is actually interested in what many people in this world today don't know much if anything about.
That was me too, was always the odd man out in most circles.....makes getting older easier since I haven't changed . Plus there wasn't many car people around here in the 80s'/90's.......met my g/f when I was 19 so she's grown up with it too. From a GenXer
When you try not to laugh out loud, out of respect, at a yungin' sitting next to you at a light with a fart canned 4 banger......... Because they never experienced a dual exhausted Big Block to know any better.
We probably are Hotrod a. I am 22 and just over the past six months dealing with not having a license ( seizers are a ***** when it comes to getting the little piece of plastic back) but in these past few months i feel like i'm alot older than i am. Granted still a kid at heart at times but very seldom do i feel in place within my age group granted i tried but all the while trying to communicate with guys or even woman in my age group i feel like that awkward fart at a funeral deal.....
I'm going to be ugly. 1. When you have a full time job. 2. When you live on your own. 3. When you stop defining yourself through an***hesis. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
I'm 20. I have one really good friend because although he isnt "in to" old cars, he likes to build things and work with his hands. He's a craftsman. All the other kids my age smoke dope and party and listen to rap. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Stay like that. All thats "cool now" ain't 5/10 years from now. Always be happy doing you and if a person laughs at that it's them who really needs a head check. What your experiencing is being an individual around a group of people who are brainwashed. Feed that fire. You'll meet people your whole life that will try to rain on your parade your choice will be 1. Remove that person Or 2. Love that person for what they are. #1 is easy...#2 takes work, patience and is harder.. But choice 1 is a lonely one lol. Choose wisely Gr***hopper. But I do agree it will get good when you do like above and move out and get a job. Stay in $chool. Sent from my SM-J727T1 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I’m 66, I too went through that at a younger age. I was the nerd in high school with black framed gl***es, took auto mechanics and was good at math and science. Even had the slide rule and pocket protector. This was when the quote Muscle Car stuff was coming hot. I had a good running 57 wagon, ad the new stuff was faster for sure, but soon the new stuff would come untuned. I wasn’t a popular kid, but stuck to my dreams and p***ion. It wasn’t long before the dope and fast car crowd found out I could set up rears, redo broken four handles and put a tune on the rides Mommy and Daddy bought for them. Made a lot of walk around money off them. Still do cool stuff today though not so much car stuff as boats but I to would rather be in my shop rebuilding or making parts. Just be true to yourself like the Beach Boy song says. Welcome to the real world.
Goof for you. You might be lonely in a crowd at times, but your life will be more well adjusted than the snowflakes. And what in the world is "face timing"?
