I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with two different body lines on my 54. The first one is the side trim body line. I had to cut that line off the rear window section to position the window the way I wanted it. So now it stops right behind the rear side window. I'm not sure if I should delete it off the side of the car entirely? Or, if I should weld on a foot section or so and make it just stop? If I take it off the car I have a weird line where the end of the top comes down to meet the quarter panel. The second problem is the line right below the drip rail, I'm not sure if I should round it, or make it stop either. Can anyone help or send me pix of cars you've done?
There's an excellent post in the Tech. section on chopping a '53. Take a look at it. It may be a big help. When you say "side trim line", are you talking about the belt line trim? Maybe if you've got some pics of where your at, we'd be better able to help out.
Be sure and post some pics when you can. I'm planning on chopping my '54 club coupe soon, and I'm always looking for info/ ideas.
i think it would look ok with the belt line trim and the roof trim deleted then just blend the body lines into each other
Here's what i did with the belt line on my 53.. Like you, when i installed the rear glass and surrounding tin i removed the beltline reveal from the quarter window's back.. I shaped the beltline reveal on the car to a point when i welded it back together, then took the stock stainless trim that was there, cut it and hammered that to the same shape i made the reveal. So, i was able to retain the trim all around the front and side window's and end it in a clean way. It also matches the side trim of the car as well, so it's not out of place. hope this helps a little. Tony
Hey, Now thas some killer stainless work there, Tony. That stuff's a bitch ta work with. Swankey Devils C.C.
Thanks for the pictures. That is kind of what I had in mind if I decided to go that route. Do any of you have pictures of any 53/54's w/out the belt line? I want to explore my options before I go much further.
