So I obtained a set of what I think are 1951 Oldsmobile Fender Skirts to use on my 51 Buick Special. They match contour wise perfect with quarter and wheel opening. My issue is with the center bolt on the fender skirt. I am guessing I am missing a bracket that is needed to receive said bolt and actually draw the skirt into the body for a tight fit. I am wondering if anyone has pics of their wheel opening showing this bracket? ***uming it exists and preferably looking up into the wheel well. I have searched to no avail. Even if I have to fabricate one having a visual would aid me in not reinventing the wheel.
I think that when you put your fender skirt on the car and turn the bolt it clamps the skirt to the body. You have to push the bolt up before you turn it. That's the way my '50 Ford skirts work that I have on my '50 chevy only have a level at the bottom of my instead of a bolt. There should be wire hangers on each end of the skirt to hold the bottom of the skirt to the body of the car. Do a search on e-bay for '50 ford skirts for sale and you will see the set up. Hope this helps and good luck. Ray...
Thanks Ray. I am surprised that there is not more to it than just the bolt wedged against the body. It would explain why I have not seen any pictures showing otherwise. I bet a lot of these skirts fell off back in the day. Wonder if anybody has modified these for a more secure fit and ease of putting them on and off?
