anyone know if anyone makes replacement gauges for the 47 ford.these
are square, making them hard to find as aftermarket.this is a street rod with
a 12volt system. the gauges are 6 volt.also thought of using resistors to cut down voltage and prevent burnout.thanks for any info

I Had The Same Problem. When You Put The Round Gagues On The Dash They Look Too Big. I Put A 4 Gague Panel Under The Ldft Side Of The Steering Wheel Under The Dash. You Don't See It From The Outside But See It Well From The Drivers Seat. I Hooked The Lights Up On Both Panels. Looks Right And Works Right. Jom

I would try the 57-80's Ford gauge voltage reducer. You can use one for all the gauges (do not use for the amp meter). Ford used them on cars and trucks. For the amp meter, just reverse the wires (you now have negative ground I ***ume).

Another way is to use 6 volt zener diodes, ie there is a 6 volt drop across them so the guages only see 6 volts on a 12 volt car. One diode per guage except the ammeter. Get large current ones and fit a heatsink, coz they get hot. Hook em up the right way, coz they only work in one direction!

I have installed round gauges behind the stock faces by making an adapter, with 4 round holes that bolts up like the stock gauge retainer. You might have to grind the bezels to get them to line up with the stock faces.

If the stock gauges work you can cut down the voltage with a voltage reducer from a later ford as mentioned. You can get them new at napa or poke around the junkyard.

If you want aftermarket gauges someone makes a new front bezel with round holes instead of square ones. I've also seen half sweep round gauges mounted behind the stock faceplate and it doesn't look bad if you pick the right gauges and make them work.
