This doesn't look like much but me and the boy blasted his frame after removing the front suspension and rear end.

I managed to drop a washer into my new motor while taking it off the engine stand and putting it on the hoist, all the way down into the pan. "Ting"

    Somebody shoot me... please?

Well I managed to pull my engine and tranny out. After driving my car 2 times under its own power, the engine started shooting white smoke everywhere. So since I dont know the history of the engine i'm gonna get it rebuilt. I was mad that I had to undo all my work, but I have to look at the big picture.

Big fat goose egg for me. Did get some easy OT at work though. Would've rather been working on my car.

i replaced the rear shocks on my 51 shoebox. of courese the nuts were frozen onto the mounts wich caused one to strip as i was removeing it with the impact wrench. i ended up haveing to rethread the nut. all in all its good..

  7. I sold a 351W, dragged a derelict 258 from an '83 Jeep to the curb along with an old USELESS (yes really) compressor on Saturday morning. Then I cleaned some of the garage, did some laundry, planted a flower bed, hung out with my kids and fell asleep 'cuz I'm not used to physical labor. I told you I dragged that stuff to the curb.

Sunday I slept in despite my kids being loud. Ran some errands, ate some lunch. Then I went to my girlfriend's house where we had a deep and meaningful conversation about where we're headed. Ain't life grand?

Came home this afternoon and the local scrap man had hauled away a few hundres pounds of scrap metal. Don't PM me!!! It truly was scrap... I put the "Crap" in scrap!!!

Went to a show in Hollister on Saturday and took a drive / ride in the great weather on Sunday.

Well, I bought a shit-ton of parts, but the only actual work I got done was the right hand piece of dash tin replaced on the Bel-Air.

I welded and grinded, building up the ball on the Model A radius rod that I am assembling with dropped axle and Lincoln brakes. Also built shock mounts and installed the shocks on the front of my 39 Ford. The shocks Really make a big difference in the ride.

Took apart some motor/adapter/trans combos that I won't be using for a while, cleaned the adapters and hung 'em up. Moved a bunch of transmissions around and made some room in the garage.

    Hey gang!

I'm beside myself with joy in being able to FINALLY get something posted in one of these WDYATW? threads. - LOL

My kid and I (O.K., mostly my kid - while I played the "Paul Sr." from "American Chopper" role - LOL), narrowed a "fresh" 9" Ford rear end housing to replace the P.O.S. one that came with my recently-purchased altered roadster. We also got the new disc brake assemblies in place and tacked down (gonna wait 'til we get it hooked up to the chassis before we nail them in place for good).

Since I got the car in February, I've been spending all my time (and $$) disassembling, cleaning, refurbishing, buying new parts, and making plans for updating stuff - so it was great to finally get some actual hands-on work done.

BTW - My kid has a steel fabrication business, and is a pretty clever cookie that way. He had a few techniques for doing the narrowing job that I think are worth sharing here. We got photos, and as soon as I can get him to download them, I'll have a nifty little tech post on the subject.

Meanwhile, I need to study up on how to put those nice, big photos inside my posts, instead of just tacking on the little "thumbnails".

    Wish me luck.

Lets see... Finished the front suspension on the 53' and fixed the broken speedo... Moved the 30 coupe from the rear garage to the front, next to the 53,.... moved the 27' roadster to middle of rear garage so I can get back to work on it,.... put a stereo in my Urban Surburban and had new rubber installed. That was enough for me.....

I had to work. The good news is I got 3 full days to wrench starting tuesday. New lift comes for the garage on wednesday. If I can get my Jamco suspension parts on and finish the last 2 body mounts I will call my
time off a success. ANY thing beyond that is a bonus. Seats coming back
from the shop in 2 weeks. If I can be on the road before June I'll be elated.
I do want to say thanks and that this site has been a real inspiration.

Went to install some rear shocks and realized the nuts and retaining cup were gone on one side. A fellow HAMB member has the parts:cool:. Have to press out the little berring in one end of the shock to make it work.
Went to the Hot Rod Church. Drove around a while.

Built a small deck and trellis/planter box thingie yesterday. Managed to saw through the cord of my new jigsaw. That's a new one for me.

Today I picked up the winter's supply of cigarette butts from the driveway, swept out the garage, and got my parts ready to install, still need to get a new gas tank.
Oh, and found a historical document for my car from a HAMBer! Now I can be a law-abiding citizen! Woo-hoo!

That was a cool swap meet. I've never been to anything that massive before. I can't wait to see some resto work on the Bel-Air.

Anywyas, what did I do this weekend? Went to a swap meet, didn't buy anything, and cracked the intake manifold on my daily driver.

Besides scoring some bargains at a swap meet, I sat and stared at my 28 RPU shadetree build. Planning out the rear suspension with minimal welding required and just using stuff I already had. I came up with an idea to build some trailing arms that will include a seat for a coil spring and a shock through the center of it. They will be reversable to change ride height depending on if I clamp them to the top or the bottom of the rear end using leaf spring U bolts. The coil spring seat is designed so it will easily allow air bags later on when I can afford it.

I went out and bought some Createx airbrush paint, dug out my gun and painted some MONSTER t-shirts. I'll post the pics this Friday.:D

  27. I had a pretty productive weekend.

Painted the bottom of the wood boat project...FINALLY!

Welded in all the new crossmembers to the new floor in the 63 impala.

And most importantly moved my 15 year old daughter in with me. As it should be! Went from carefree single guy to Mr. Mom!

I helped my friend (that is letting me use shop space to build my car) clean up the shop so that he could have it painted and then we moved everything back.

My daughter's soccer team won their second game.We lost everygame last season so this is quite the improvement.:D
