I have a couple things in my head, and my wife(who has claimed this as hers)has some ideas, but.... Anyone have any cool pics saved of 57 Chevy wagons? Or, any..>This is what I would do if it were mine! ideas?< Just covering the bases before we decide. Here's the subject...have at it.. Ideas? pics of others?
Hell, throw a drop on it and it would look perfect! I've got a few pictures, but I'm not sure they are the type of thing you'd go for with a wagon in that nice of condition. SBC is being a bastard, I'll try uploading them again in a bit. Nice ride!
I'm building a '56 2 door and I'm dropping it 3" in the back and probably 2" or 3" in the front off the bat. Then probably shave the nose. Keep the WWW's for sure. Just keep it pretty stock and just change the stance, that's all it needs cause the paint & trim look too good to shave anything just yet.
Man I have always had a thing for Jesse James's 57 wagon. I just can't get the wife to go along with a similar scheme for my 56.
Very nice score Tim! I'd only do three things to it, just goin' by that pic. Drop it. (as low as ya can without changin' everything) Change the caps (those are fine but hey it won't be "yours" 'til ya change 'em) Lose the lil' window visors (that's a personal one fer me...I hate those things) That's it. Olson
that wagon is 'right on' as is! maybe lower it maybe not. a pair of optional 57 chev spinner hubcaps would be nice. just get rid of the chevelle side mirror thats all.
5,6,7 Chevy...Leave it alone...Cut up something else..drop it a bit maybe and run those awesome Caps and whites.. But if you are looking for Wagon Inspiration here is a Link..keep hittin The next Button,There is about 20 Pages of some pretty cool Wagons from The 50's Also you can go to The main Page and Choses other years.. I didn't want to shave anything off. I kinda like all the factory gingerbread. It's sort of a art-deco thing. Lowering it is in the works. I already have 2.5 and 3" lowering blocks, so I'll play with those. And I bought a new set of 2" dropped coils at the swapmeet for $50., so they'll go in(with maybe another 1/2 or 1 coil taken out. My idea was to leave it look stock but lowered, and maybe paint the wheels copper and run spider caps. I'm going to get new wide whitewalls today. They're waiting for me. BUT! The body has several places bubbling through. It needs work before it gets worse. So with that in mind... I thought about leaving the interior the stock copper/white, and painting the wheels copper, with caps or spiders, and fixing the body and doing what's copper now in black satin, and either leave the roof gloss white or have it painted gloss copper(similar to the black and purple one above). So anyone want to photoshop it with these schemes? Any other pics? Thanks
Oh yeah, I already bought new round mirrors. I hated those square mirrors too. My wife is at home right now cleaning all that chrome..she's a good woman! BTTT for the day shift...photoshop'r's? anyone else have cool wagon pics?
You got a perfect list of ideas there! The only thing I would change on that list is the paint. Just redo the copper when you fix the bad spots. It looks to good on that car! .
A late friend of mine shaved the back handles. He also put '56 chrome on the lower rear. Sure looked sweet. Now if I can find a pic.
Ideas? I've got some ideas. Put the 283 on a stand in the garage and stick the Powerglide under your workbench. Get a set of script valvecovers, grind the logo off an Edelbrock 4bbl manifold and paint it orange, attach these items along with all the accesories from the 283 to a fresh 383. Hook a remanufactured 200-4R to the column shifter. Put dropped spindles on the front along with disc brakes and 2" lowering blocks in the rear. Drive it and enjoy the completely invisible upgrades to a perfect '50s ride - allow everyone to think it's a stocker.
Very cool that your wife's into it. I suggest keeping her at the top of the list if you want her to continue being into it. Less is more on that thing!!!! nice......
Yes, my wife desperately wants airride on this one. Especially since she saw that photoshopped version! Oh yeah, didn't I mention it already has a '76 350/350 combo and dual exhaust? It's a great driver. I'm leaning towards the almost bone stock look, just lowered or bagged. I'm not sure if I should leave the stock caps, some flippers? or painted steelies and spider caps....decisions.....
I have a 57 moredoor wagon also...gonna bag it,dropped spindles with power disc brakes, wide whites on?? 57 buick grille,235 with split pipes and a 3 sp with factory OD....should be just right for when my kid hits 16!
Tim, the 57 Buick grills look great in them, drop it, set of lakes or dump tubes, let me know when you go to sell this one, my wifes been wanting a wagon. Don
The visirs are gone. I didn't care too much for them. We saved them in case we decide to put them back on. I priced getting the full air ride treatment. Wow. It's gonna be about $3200. installed with a engine driven pump. Thinking though. We really want it done. I haven't had too much luck finding pics of cool 57 wagons. Most were stockers. decisions, decisions
Do not Satin Black that car! (have we seen enough of that yet?) That copper is a sharp color. If you plan to fix the body blemishes correctly(and we know you will)It ain't gonna cost much more to put the copper back on; prep is the biggest part of paint anyway, and we've already determined that the prep will be done right!
Another vote for PLEASE leave the copper. Color looks awesome. I'd love to bag my 57, but man that shit is expensive. Here are a couple others.
Remove all 4 doors. Cut out the "B" post and move it back as far as you'd like it to be. Use the door skins and frames to make up a bigger front door and "close up' the back door area in front of the rear wheel opening. Now it's effectively a 2 door wagon with bigger doors. Or one killer sedan delivery by using sheet metal on the rear windows. "what about glass?" Well since it's all flat glass, no big deal. I can't photoshop or I'd do it in a heartbeat. "But that car's too nice to cut up!" Why start with junk? Do it to a nice car to start and get a better product in the end. Hey you wanted opinions.
