I would NOT recommend Hanlon. Back, years ago they were reputable. Those days are long gone. They do not use a 3 step plating process. The result is not show quality, you get what you pay for.

Hate to say it but I think that you will find that $800 isn't that far off for a front axle

  7. The Chrome plating thing is nuts.
Some stuff maybe you really do want it flawless and that's fine. You'll be willing to pay for the perfection.

Maybe some stuff all you want corrosion resistance and shiney but not painted. But you can't really get that from anyone who will plate car parts.

    Corrosion resistant and shiney.
More than enough for an old hotrod that is not a AMBER or Ridler contender.

  8. Well, his shop is just 20 mins away, he's local. :D:p

This fender bumber that looks a bit like a radius rod- $ 275.00 rechromed in grafton Ohio.
On my Dad's bike that still 99% original. That's a one year only 1976 -bicentennial edition only part and no replacements were available. The actual metal was almost perfect but the chrome had failed so it needed redone. I say almost because underneath up inside where nobody can see there was some light rust around the rubber insert lock holes.

You see a brand new chrome one is $70.00, it fits the bike but not correct for the bicentennial edition.

Before the part was released John and I had a discussion about his chrome job matching the original Harley stuff. Show chrome would stand out like a sore thumb against the m*** production AMF stuff. Which btw shines like a diamond in a goats *** when it's cleaned up, again more than good enough for an old hot rod or 40 year old motorcycle. I was told there was show chrome or no chrome and that matching in color and quality to the old stuff was impossible so I bit the bullet. The part is far enough away but stuck out if held next to other parts. His show chrome job has fogged, spotted and looks worse than any part of the original "cheap" production chrome. Still better than it was when he received it but it's not nice.
