Did wide 5 wheels come stock on more than one year ? Did this style whl come stock on cars and trucks ? What is a set (4) worth, in you opinion ? Condition is original/very good to excellent. I have a buddy who has a set of these whls/hubcaps/beauty rings. He says that they are stock off of a 'truck'. He has had them stored in a shed for decades and isn't into old cars. He ask me for info, now I don't know, so asking here.
Depends on the sizes, the ones that were on V8 60 cars are worth a little more because they are skinnier and make killer front runners, some of the truck ones were a little wider, you need to know the width of the rims. they are all 16 inch, but width and shape determines value. Can you post some pictures? that would help some.
In agreement with Jason above. Width of the rim will have an impact on value. For reference, I've probably got 14 or 15 wide five rims as I'm cherrypicking the best to make a set with spares (6 total). The most I paid was $40 for one, but on average I've paid in the $25 to $30 range. I'd probably go $50 a rim on an excellent set if I knew they were true. I don't own any V8-60 rims, but I've seen them up in the $75 - $100 range if they're really nice. Trim rings and hubcaps run the range, totally depends on what style of hubcaps they are.
They're worth more if all the hubcap retainer clips are good. Most of them are 4" width (wheel rim width is measured as inside width between the flanges that the tire seals against). '37-'39 60 HP car rims are 3 1/2". 4 1/2" rims are '36-'38 Lincoln Zephyr and an option for pickups.
There are some pickup truck-only hubcaps that I guess are really valuable as well if they're in good shape. But pics are important. Wheels aren't too hard to find yet in decent shape, I agree with the above estimate of $25-50 each depending on condition. Mint hubcaps are hard to come by, but tons of OK hubcaps are available and cheap. They need to be super nice to be very valuable.
Real test is to measure how true the wheels are....for instance, I had 15 wheels that were nice looking and was really worried that I didn't have 4 good ones when we started measuring them......most were bent
A little unknown ting about wide fives, is they also were used on some farm implements. The ones on the back of our 34 are 5" wide and we found them NOS at an old farm implement dealer still on the shelf. The fronts our 3.5 " V8-60 wheels. So don't pass up an old manure spreader of farmers junk yard.
THANKS to all of you guys for your excellent input ! I had/have no use for this type rims, so not interested personally. That said, I do take an interest in helping friends/buddies. And, I have been around the block with old iron for many decades, so am somewhat observant...dispite loss of greymatter cells. If I needed / wanted such type rims, I would have snapped these up. I measured with finger/eyeball , and width is 4". But, I will get pictures for you guys , next time that I'm at this friends shop. He builds engines, so he's not interested in these rims either...only to sell them. To my eye, they have no curb rash, no dents and only light surface rust inside from sitting. Old paint (maybe original) on them. The 'beauty' rims and hub caps looked great even not cleaned up. Didn't know about wire retainers, but can look for those now also. Will be back with better info and pics.
