Ok need to lower my 51. Having problems with lowered spindles can only find them with a disk brake conversion needed. I heard you can use 53 spindles and flip then if so great please give me any details you know as in how much lowering do you get ext. I would like to save cutting the springs as a last resort if no other lowering methods work.

Not sure how far you are looking to go, but you can get somewhere around a combined 4" by using dropped uprights, steering arms and cut springs (1.5 coils on mine). Just finishing this up on my '51 hardtop as we speak.

Above pic is obviously not on the ground yet, I just put my floor jack up against the lower A-arm to get an idea. I won't be able to get mine back on the ground until my replacement lower A-Arm on the driver's side comes in.

You want to look for dropped uprights, not spindles. Check out Fatman Fabrication, or Alex Gambino (who I bought my stuff from... fatman dealer here on the HAMB).

  3. Get the Fatman stuff OR look for 54 uprights, or go through Buffalo (you can link to him off the Inliners International Site). You can also order new springs from Coil Spring Specialties, I ordered mine with a 2" drop and they were around $115.00, beats cutting old worn out springs!

Is it just the '54 uprights that are lower, or is it the 53-54?

  5. I sent my uprights to Buffalo ent. to be modified. He lowers them about 2-1/4". I also cut 1 coil from my spring. The whole front end came down about 4". I also used 54 steering arms (Thanks Danimal!!) which are 5/8" lower than 49-52.

  6. If I remember correctly its 54 only, but I ain't much on brain power! Pretty sure its 54 only though....

Good advice there. I didn't mention that I'm not intending to keep the springs in mine for long. This fall I'm planning on doing bags, so I wasn't into the idea of buying new springs then tossing them in a few months.

If you are doing any of this stuff, evaluate what kinda shape the rest of he front end is in before you start. My shafts and kingpins were getting pretty questionable and needed rebuilt. The front end parts for these things are available, but they are a bit spendy. Once you figure in the cost of everything + the uprights, etc. -- you might be pretty close to the cost of a new MII setup.

I have been trying to figure what front end parts off my 54 I can use on the 51 to lower the front. Anyone have a good answer and have a true answer on what it will actually lower the front?
