Gary, that is EXACTLY like the car that I got the frontend off of when I crashed my 57 BelAir two door hardtop in high school, painted it yellow with a white top.

  6. thanks, Johnny, i think the builder was really inspired by the GM concept cars of this timeframe, but his built was based on some kind of a daily driver, don't even have an idea what it was:::::confused:

I really like those chevron tail lights on the 40 Ford.

  12. I know what you mean, back in the late 50s when I owned my 39 coupe, I had a bad case of 40 Ford tail light envy.

I remember talking to Gable several times when he had this T-Bird. He cruised the Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake fairly frequently. The engine had a McCulloch Supercharger on it, and had a 3-speed stick trans. Gable was a "car guy". He lived in Encino on his 20-acre ranch and loved to talk about cars he's owned. A very nice easy going guy. He asked me once when I was born (April, 1939). He said that was just before Gone With the Wind was released, a movie he did not want to be in. He tried to get out of it but apparently couldn't. He was afraid that if he played Rhett Butler in that movie, no movie he ever made after that would ever get much attention and he would be remembered only for that one movie, and he was probably correct. He never talked about his WWII experience on all those missions...

I may have thrown you with the photo. I did mention 55 or 56 Olds for a reason. ;)

Archie Ary's "Flying Saucer," from Colton, CA. Archie ran a Chrysler on fuel in this car, seen here at Inyokern. Archie ran a garage in Colton, and was one of the founders of the Colton Drag Strip. He later went on to run top fuel.

A.H. Ahrens Ford, caption says "1936," but unless that '34 sedan took two years to get to Pasadena, CA, the caption is wrong. The building remains, on 285 W. Colorado, but now it is a Bentley dealership. Photo from the Pasadena Digital Archives.

Badly crunched '34 Ford coupe, 1947. Someone hot rodded it, even has the chrome oil filter. There is no information on what happened to the driver or passengers, but it couldn't have been good. Pasadena, CA.
